Glad I wasn't the only one who noticed the silence.

You're not talking chinese, not in the slightest, you're just not thinking about it realistically...

The reason I made that statement is because it's the truth. Sony are not trying to take over the world, they are not supressing our community in a way which requires us to form a resistence, take action and fight back. The way you bring that across is nothing short of fantasy. These a real people with real lives and having a law suit which not only deprives them of their posessions but brings debt upon them, is not healthy living. Do you want that? I bet you don't.

Two hackers have already got in trouble and so what if they're being used as scapegoats in Sony's quest for silence (and yes I actually do realise they're being used as scapegoats, I'm not a mindless zombie)? It doesn't mean Sony wont come after someone else and do the same with them. Sure, you're right, people should show Sony that we can't be messed with and that we wont cower to their fearmongering, but to be quite honest, it's not even worth it. It's better to let them think they're winning because not only will they give up faster, but our silence will likely cause them to leave more fatal flaws in their firmware, which in the end is what we want.

Sony have been going through hell for the past three or four years with the PSP. I have no evidence to support this, but it's likely after everything they've been through, they're now shitting bricks with this system. They know exactly what's coming and they need to do everything they can to prevent it, NOW. This is why responding in silence is good, this is also why certain groups keep their secrets to them selves. You will not even believe how many unreleased PSP exploits there are from games off PSN (an example), and sure it might seem selfish to keep this information back, but doing so preserves those exploits and prevents Sony from being able to fix them.

Silence is good, secrecy is good and these are all lessons that were learned in the past. People are responding this way because they know this is the way the should be respoding, especially in a situation like this which quite frankly is one like we've never seen before. It preserves their personal lives, it preserves their interests and it preserves the community, even though it might not seem like it.
Your followup response I can more or less agree with up to a point. I guess it's just the extreme frustration boiling over sometimes that gets the best of me.

In a way, I have advocated going underground in a way in the past - but still believe overall that the situation is getting so serious that just giving in to their demands will be a massive setback for hacking in general.

What disturbs me even more are the kinds of people that actually condone Sony's actions on blogs/gaming sites. It's not only that there is a company that poses a serious threat to freedoms - it's that these people's overall tendency to side with the 'victor'/platform holder is as serious a cause of concern.I think I agree more or less with this post on NeoGAF:

NeoGAF - View Single Post - Magistrate grants Sony access to visitor personal data on Youtube/Twitter re: GeoHot

At this point I am seriously scared for the future of the human race. Part of me thinks its just the fanboy in people that would allow them to support some of SONY's actions lately but another part of me thinks people really are this corrupt in their thinking. I'm sorry but some of you need to realize most of us aren't singleling out SONY here we are going after their actions and overall handling of this.
He's not even exaggerating BTW if you look at some of these gaming sites. I have seen calls for Geohot to get sliced and diced all six ways to Sunday (well, I think you can figure out what they want to have done to them) - I have seen offers by some Sony fans to actively 'hunt down' CFW users on PSN (I guess this would work in a similar way as 'child protective services' or 'report a suspicious person' - at least that would be what the guy envisions) - I have seen all sorts of abusive gunslinging arguments between users - the extreme lunacy of these people just has to be seen to be believed. And why are they so mad at CFW users really? The possible 'fear' that somebody might hack their favorite multiplayer game - some identikit military FPS where everybody talks trash over their headsets all day? This is the vast threat to their 'enjoyment' that gets them all riled up to side with a company like that? It's sad really - it's even against their own self-interests in the end.

God, another SCENE IS DEAD THREAD!

What is the matter with people, has no one used technology for more then 2 months? or less?

    Were you all born yesterday?

The SCENE is a wave it goes up and down, and sometimes it is rough sailing with all men on the deck, and at other times it is dead quiet with just the boat sailing thru with no action, and other times you get out right shipwrecked, and have to swim to shore and start over again.

I been around since '79, I see the ARCADE scene, the first HOME COMPUTER scene, the first CARTRIDGE home gaming scene, the vast of nothing new in anything after the '80s crash, then the flood of the PC scene, then the rebirth of the new video gaming scene, then the switch over to the 2nd generation, now the flood of portable gaming devices, and digital only downloads, better and at the same time weaker encyptions.

It is all the same. -- I think I should for the fun of it, find all the dozens and dozens and dozens of "the scene is dry", "the scene is dead", "it is all over" threads from our vast 10 years of database, and merged them all together, it would surely be a laugh of the day.

Until then, time to bring out the handcuffs and lock this thread down!
