    keep at it.
mine worked on the 23rd try.
it kept failing to verify the update, then failing at format at random %'s and even kept telling me that it could not access the disk.

    it will work....

    edit...
format the hard drive in windows first as it will probably be locked

i deleted partition once in windows and formatted to fat32
i didnt have to take the battery out at all.

when you put the drive back in, and keep your finger on the power button, ignore the message you first get saying to press the ps button. keep hold of power til it turns off and do recovery menu.

oh yeah, flash drives did not work for me (tried 6)
i had to use an external drive for the update

Yep, I had problems with flash sticks also, I bought one just for un-bricking consoles, and ended up cracking in two-nice-broken halfs because of problems like this.

I now use an old 2gig laptop drive stuck inside a small ide to usb adapter, for storing all the magic recovery firmware, works ten times better, never get weird error messages when doing a restore now.

Sadly, the ****er was smart enough to use an old Proxy service from Ukraine.

I'll join you in a threesome. Not in the prison part, but at home with his mom and GF and mom.

Seriously, what a SCUM for releasing this to the public.
