Tutorial: Installing & running PS3SX Beta on CFW 3.55

I'm not sure actually, I guess it shouldn't be pissing me off so much.

Maybe it's because there was a better chance at decent PSX emulation in mednafen. If people supported that instead of this abandoned one then it could actually lead somewhere.

Mednafen has some PSX Emulation? So that is what I read about on the Project page?

Just wondering why it wouldnt run Virtual Boy. No matter which one I run, it freezes with a BlackScreen

Edit: Wow. Just when to post and next thing you know I got redirected to some BS VirusScan site saying it detected problems with my PC. LOL. They really think I will believe that? A VirusScan takes a hell of a lot longer then 5-10Sec.

At the end of the day, if you're (not talking about anyone in particular) that willing to put up with the crappy compatibility of this emulator just to play a couple ps1 games, you're better off using epsxe with a ps3 controller.

Mednafen runs Virtual Boy games great, (i think only 1 maybe 2 roms crash, i havent tried other romsets yet) but its even got red/blue 3D glasses support, surprising some of the games are quite good through in a retro 3D kind of way!

If there was ANY helpful documentation on how to emulate PSX games in Mednafen, I'd be using it already. PS3SX may be abandoned but at least there are clear instructions on how to use it.

Still haven't got any games to work with PS3SX, trying kula world now, for lack of any other game to try. :P

Just tried Mednafens PSX emulation.

So far it seems better than PS3SX, its a shame Mednafen isn't worked on anymore. :/

It ran crash bash first time, seemed to run at about 50% of the normal speed. Sound did work but was choppy, and often cut out. Text was not visible when pausing a mini-game.

NOTE: You need a .cue of the game to run it in mednafen.

Tutorial:

Get the latest Mednafen build. I use 7th February, but there is an 11th of Feb out i believe. Install it on your ps3, you should know how to do this.

Get a .cue of your game.

Copy the .cue anywhere on your PS3 HDD. I have a PSX folder on the root of my HDD.

The PSX BIOS can go anywhere, if your using PS3SX you'll have one anyway.

Boot Mednafen, press R3 to access settings, scroll to PCSX-Reloaded and press X, scroll down to BIOS location press Triangle to select the location, go to the directory your BIOS is in, press R2 so that the file goes GREEN, then press X. You have selected the BIOS as the one to use, you can enable the CPU compiler in the PCSX-Reloaded settings if you wish, but it didn't speed up/slow down or improve compatibility on crash bash.

Press O until your back to the ROM select screen, then navigate to your .cue of your game, and press X on it, you'll be asked to configure your controls, after which, the game will boot.

Enjoy, i hope more games work with this emulator.

Edit: just tried it with my Xenogears eboot.pbp, got a black screen, had to restart my ps3

Pretty sure you cant just use EBOOT.PBPs for mednafen. Correct me if im wrong though, you have to use .cues

Turk1sh didnt bother actually reading the thread by the looks of it.

I wonder if the devs behind mednafen or ps3sx would consider working on these again if we had some sort of donation whipround for them, im sure they have work/family etc and free time is an issue for most.
