Okay, I've seen countless threads about this all over the internet, but no clear instructions anywhere.
First things first: I am not involved with the creation of PS3SX at all. I can't tell you any advanced technical info about it, nor can I make any changes - I'm just your typical PS3 user, like most of you. Also, this emulator is still a beta and as such, do not expect it to run very well at all. Game compatibility is low, with a lot of games not working at all. Expect a lot of graphical glitches, and don't be surprised when the emulator is not running at full speed. This tutorial was merely written to explain how to successfully install and run PS3SX on CFW 3.55, as a lot of people haven't been able to install or run it at all. Now that that's all out of the way, on to the tutorial:
Things you will need:
- CFW 3.55 PS3 (geohot or kmeaw) with multiMAN installed
- FAT32 formatted USB drive
- PS3SX 3.55 Beta PKG (download link - if this goes down let me know and I'll reup it)
- SCPH1001.bin (you're on your own for this one - Google is your friend.
- PSX game images (I tested using .ISO files dumped from my own legitimate discs)
First, copy the PS3SX 3.55 Beta PKG, SCPH1001.bin and at least one PSX game image to your FAT32 formatted USB drive.
Stick it in your PS3, go Game -> Install PKG files, and install.
Now run PS3SX. On first run it will say something about creating a file tree/structure (can't remember exactly). If all goes well, it will tell you to put roms in dev_hdd0/game/PCSX00001/roms. Quit back to XMB.
Next, you will need to open up multiMAN, switch to the file manager view, and copy SCPH1001.bin to dev_hdd0/game/PCSX00001/bios. While you're here, copy your PSX game image(s) to dev_hdd0/game/PCSX00001/roms.
Quit out to XMB, and launch PS3SX once again. Once in, press circle to bring up the settings screen.
Here's the important part - your settings need to match the settings listed here. Feel free to experiment with other settings, but these are the ones that I've used and they've worked for me. The important parts are in bold.
Resolution: Doesn't matter, and lowering it doesn't seem to increase emulation speed any.
PAL60 mode (576p only): Off.
Selected shader: /stock.cg
Font size: 1.000000
Aspect ratio: Scaled
Hardware Filtering: Linear interpolation
PSX Dualshock PAD: Disable.
Display FPS: Yes.
Use CPU interpreter: Yes.
Use HLE BIOS: Yes.
Now press circle to return to the roms list. If you copied your roms to the correct directory and they're in the right format, they should show up. Press X on one and you'll most likely get heavy graphical glitches initially, but after a few moments the graphics should clear up. I was getting around 20FPS on Kula World. Not ideal, but still - at least it works.
If you have any questions or problems reply to this thread and I'll try to help out as much as I can. Also, if you have any suggestions on how to word this tutorial more clearly/if you feel that additional steps need to be included, let me know.
Apologies if a similar tutorial has already been posted here, but if it has - it isn't very easy to find. I'd like to request that a mod/admin stickies this for future reference.
