PS3 is turing complete, so it can emulate any other machine. Just don't expect it to be full speed and compatible with most games (one can be traded against the other).
Any news?. One month without any good or bad news...
You mean like this one? There has been no updates on the blog since 4th october :(
i am not sure about ps3, but doesn't it share a similar concept? if not, that is going to be a problem. and the main reason for pcsx2 hw requirements.Quote:
Is it possible to overcome the fact that the PS2 GPU had access to ram that was faster then anything available on the PS3, with a hack?
the main concept on the ps2 was to constantly feed the graphics chip with data from system ram, due to insane bandwidth it offered. there was very little graphics ram, too.
ps3 probably has even higher bandwidth, but with all the emulation overhead it probably causes problems. especially since cell is a totally different chip, that is not generic like ones we have in our pc's and might have serious issues with emulation related tasks.
I wouldn't expect anythung just yet, if he's got his PS3 he won't want to release any further news/footage until the emu itself has taken a considerable leap forwards from the short we saw of it last time I would say to satisfy the people who donated.
Now, PCSX2 is optimised for 2 cores I think, the ps3 has two hardware threads in the general purpose Cell core which may map pretty well. Utilising SPU and RSX cores to get graphics going at a reasonable rate is likely to be the tricky bit. That and translating the x86 SSE2/3 specific stuff.
Got my doubts that it's going to be any good.
It would be better to first try and get PSX & N64 running on the ps3 instead of Dreamcast & PS2,but hey that's just my opinion.
Can't wait to play some DC and PS2 on my PS3!!
