Hopefully a dynarec can be ported over. Would be a great advancement for the community.
Thanks for sharing the info .. Hopefully this can be done in the future and we see an advancement in emulation on the ps3
I seen @ crunch pete_uk was going to provide some 4.21 dumps. I hope that helps

Hey guys I was wondering if anyone could help me with retroarch. All I want to do is play the original Donkey Kong. I tried using the newest version of retroarch with FBA however I could not get donkey kong to boot, I would always get an error. Has anyone else used it on there? Is it possible I got the wrong rom version?
Since I wasn't able to get it to work, I went to an older release with imame4all or whatever and was able to play donkey kong fine, however I was not able to save anything. This is not a big deal at all because there isn't much saving in arcade games, but it would be nice I could save high scores and not have it reset everytime I close the game.
Imame4all was officially dropped and Save/loading will not be attended to. So that will remain the case. Good news for mame on ps3. Retroarch developers are in development trying to port mame 0.78 (a better version of mame to the ps3)
It may be a case where the system or manufacture is not supported in FBA. but i am not sure.
these are the system that can be emulated on FBA
Capcom CPS-1, 2 & 3
Sega System 16 A & B
Sega System 18
Sega X-Board & Y-Board
Psikyo 68EC020 Based Hardware
Plus some other misc. titles that the original authors decided to add. DK could be one of those, i am not sure. for a game list of some of these arcade systems. system16.com is a great resource.
Let me try and find some additional info on that title. Will update this post when i have obtained such info.
I figured saving wouldn't be implemented in it, but from what I understood FBA is essentially an arcade emulator the same way MAME is? I was wondering if FBA supports saves, though like I said everytime I try to use it (mainly DK) I get an error, that's why I ended up downgrading to Imame4all. I have no problem not being able to save as long as I can play Donkey Kong, though it does suck using a retroarch version from 3 or 4 releases ago just to be able to play it.
While looking around on the FBA website, in the patch notes for 2.97.27 it mentions "Added driver for games on Donkey Kong hardware [iq_132]". Is it safe to assume DK will never work in this version of retroarch/FBA as it is ported from 2.97.26? For now I will settle with not being able to save but being able to play the game. Retroarch is a great app and I hope it continues to improve and get updated.
Yea FBA and MAME are both arcade emulators. but FBA doesnt have as large of a library to emulate. FBA uses mame romset 0.145 where as Imame4all on the ps3 uses 0.37b5 so that may be an issue if you are trying to use the same rom. (but FBA may noit emulate that one at all)

As FBA wont play the older roms from the mame 0.37b5 romset.
I believe when you see an official update of RetroArch you will see that latest version of FBA installed. Infact i was told the latest version does work on ps3 but the last unofficial version it was left out.

Due to the fact it would require new roms (from a later mame romset then 0.145) which some people will/would dislike the fact all their roms will be useless so pete_uk stuck with the current 26 one. If i am not mistaken.
Yea if it mentions a DK driver added i would also assume that it will not work until RA fba core is updated to .27 (however i am not sure)
What was the file name of the dk rom you had working on Imame4all?
It's just dkong.zip. I have 2 different versions, I think 2 different romsets. One of the files will work on Imame4all on my ps3, but wouldn't work on the current release of MAME on my PC. I found another that works on MAME, but crashes Imame4all. I tried both in FBA in Retroarch and get errors and nothing happening. I think it's just safe to assume this game doesn't work in FBA on the ps3 in this current version. I'll keep using Imame4all and keep an eye out for future Retro releases. Thanks for all of your help.
Yea i got to work in Imame4all but not FBA..
I will see about adding the recent FBA core as a standalone perhaps in the near future. I have to do some research and make sure the latest one was working on the PS3 and get one of my friends who are familier with compiling RA to compile the core. So this may take a bit of time. So no promises at this time
Are the rom, saves, etc paths broken? It seems like no matter what path I try Retroarch always starts in the root of ps3 and the sram and savestates are created wherever the roms are loaded from. I've had this problem since 0.9.7 I think, happens in the 0.9.8 beta too. I'm on Rogero 4.30 v2.03 currently if that makes any difference.
edit: forgot to mention I'm running Retroarch straight from the xmb and not through multiman (never saw the point) though I don't think it would make any difference.
I am not sure about the paths i always keep the defaults. i thought it was fixed but i could be wrong. no there should be nor diffrence from booting from multiMAN or the XMB
Updated Standalone Core: with the recent release of 0.9.8 beta 3
The systems there is multiple installations of the same core if the core emulates more then one system. (reason for more eye candy on the XMB if thats your thing, some expressed they like it like that) Either way you have the choice. artwork by me. well some google stuff i put together .
the future versions will be more "beautiful"?
The games work, but the interface is poor.
I'm not complaining, I'm just suggesting ...
