I dont mean to sound ingrateful as it is a good thing that anyone is porting any emulators to the ps3 but can we somehow make these a little more user friendly. I know the interface doesnt even compare to that of my old xbox (which is sad), but it would be nice if some of the settings would actually save and work correctly. Simple things like setting up the rom path. Setting up this is a nightmare and I still dont have it working and I am in no way a newb at this, it is just simply not working. I even tried manually editing the retroarch.cfg file to get rid of the extra "/" that is in front of the ROM path. No go. Why put the option there if noone tests it and it clearly doesnt work?

Anyways sorry for my rant but I have wasted too much time this morning trying to get a bunch of shitty sega cd games to work.

Any one have any luck getting the rom path to save correctly and open up correctly?

    EDIT:

Well sorry to say, but I for one AM ABSOLUTELY going back to the old emulators resigned regardless of anyone's wishes, until the new emulator interface is more user friendly. I mean how much can you improve upon a SNES or Genesis emulation, that it requires me to switch to a new emulator in which the interface is not even working correctly or for me to have to download an entirely new 7-8 gb romset to use FBA again, only to lose the ability to setup my rom path and save it, as well as the FBA list of games not even displaying the real name of the game(instead just the gametitle.zip) . No thank you, I will wait until Retroarch is up to par. I have been more than happy with all the old NEXT emulators that squarepusher was doing. This new project sounds good on paper but these emulators aren't ready for release in my opinion, especially not if they are being offered as a step up from the old emulators, which to me they clearly are not (as of yet). They caused me nothing but frustration. I have now swapped all of them back to the old NEXT emulators and what a surprise?, works like a charm. Rom path saves, Game titles are shown in FBAnext. I will gladly swap over to Retroarch when these problems are addressed. Until then I am happy with the old emulators the way they are even without updates.

As far as I know, my ps3 has never had an undetected error.

The saving of setting has been fixed and you will see that in the next official update or the next Unofficial compile from someone else which may occur very soon. Also all older roms should work (excepet CPs 1,2,3 they need MAME 0.145 romset) Sega psyiko cave ect all should work like before. your old neo geo roms may be okay, just depends on the roms sometimes just the updated BIOS is needed (the 1,404KB file) but not always. Try the new bios and go from there.

FBA roms is out of squarepusher hands (retroarch PS3 developer). He is just using the latest version of FBA on the PC from the official team. and you cant ask for more then that. I am very happy that he and FBA team worked together to bring FBA to libretro giving RetroArch user the latest updates..Even if he still supported and updated the FBAnext emulator they would still be that requirement. The same thing happen to PC users who use the official FBA.

The developer would rather you use RetroArch instead of the old ones. but the choice is yours. What he dislikes is people who push the old one as being recent emulators when they aren't/ Yes there will always be issues but posting the issues on RetroArch forums or his git. will be the best places for them to be addressed/

Again if you understand this emulator and it features (Speaking to everyone not anyone single) you will realize that this is much better and more advance emulation system. With plenty more things to offer . It makes it easier for other emulators to be ported over to the ps3. As retroarch is multi-platform so when you port to Libretro it makes it easy to port to all system and much faster..I have been using RetroArch for a long time a couple months before the official release and there is no way i would go back to the older NEXT ports. NO WAY!!!

Everyone has preferences and that is understandable but MOST times, the arguments against RetroArch are because people dont understand how it works. When it is very user friendly (IMO), just some things are different and it throws other off thats why i am here providing help and info.
As far as this not being on par or not ready for release, you couldn't be more wrong. Sorry not trying to be rude but your lack of understanding why the changes have been made is the issue. not the emulator itself. . there is many issues in the NEXT emulators when comparing them to RetroArch.

Its about gameplay 1st and foremost not about menus and minor features. (its version 0.9.7 so its early in the cycle) but the emulators are in some cases the same NEXT builds with massive improvements. I agree the only thing better about FBAnext is the menu where it listed the games by system and showed the names. but i gladly gave that up over improved emulation. Fancy frontends are resource hogs and the PS3 is a bit limited on resources. So the focus is on emulation and isn't that why we play the emulator in the first place? I know when i fire up an emulators its about playing the game not the 10 seconds i am on a menu. a user always had the option to use multiMAN as a frontend as well..

I dont mind helping or answering any question here. but complaints should always be on the retroarch boards (link in first post) if you want improvements/fixes for them to be best addressed.

Great SNES Emulator! I was wondering however how do you save the default directory when you open the program? I always have to search through the directories to find the roms even when I set up a default directory that
it should look into when the program is started.

That what was being discussed above that feature is currently broken. but should be fixed in the next update . Its not saving the directories or path that you customize. According to the git its been fixed if i am not mistaken. next update official or unofficial it should work.

Also SEGA CD background music will work as well: Currently its just sound effects working and not background music so all should work with the next update.

Updated info on first page: for fb_alpha core

    - Capcom CPS-1, 2 & 3 (Requires MAME Romset 0.145)
    - Neo-Geo MVS (In some cases just needs the updated NEO GEO Bios (size 1,404KB) if that doesn't work you will need the MAME romset)
    - Sega System 16 A & B (old roms should work)
    - Sega System 18 (old roms should work)
    - Sega X-Board & Y-Board (old roms should work)
    - CAVE (old roms should work)
    - Tatio (old roms should work)
    - Konami (old roms should work)
    - Psikyo 68EC020 Based Hardware (old roms should work)
    - PGM (old roms should work)
    - Toaplan (old roms should work)
------ If older roms do not work try the MAME Romset 0.145 (going off memory so if there is are errors let me know)

    Hi

There are ways on lv2 to disable the dynarec restrictions, usermode (PS3 LV2) can't generate dynamic code, ps3 lv2 don't let run any Jit code because some Htab protection with lv2 space.

Moreover there is the tipical protection on lv2 space from 0x8000000000500000 to 0x80000000007fffff because this on any 3.5+ fw you can't poke or write anything on these addresses without patch lv2.

Here is the source of my old patcher that enable Dynamic recompiler execution on 3.56 FW PS3, this was implemented in JFW356MA. It was a PKG for example but also can be done as patch on ps3mfw lv2_kernel.self, I will port it when i have more time but for now i need LV2 dumps from 4.21 CFW and 4.30 CFW for example because my ps3 is broken.

This patch some htab restrictions and the functions copy in/out on memory, so it needs port.

    DynarecPs3-Optimizer356.rar

Source with codes (ASM PPC) for the patch on lv2 (3.56 offsets). it needs port to cfw 3.55, 4.21 and maybe 4.30.

This patcher (PKG but can be done too on ps3mfw with lv2_kernel.self) again this can enable JIT Dynarec execution on LV2 PS3, maybe this can help to some emulators devs like the ones from libretro and some n64 emu.

This is the source code of my patcher the offsets are 3.56 LV2 PS3 because this, it should not work now on 3.55 i think we the PS3 Homebrew Community really need the Dynamic Recompiler Execution on ps3 homebrews like libretro ports or any other emulator...

    User talk:Ing pereira - PS3 Development Wiki

I will be working on this source to make it run on 4.21 cfw 3.55 and 4.30 but first i need that lv2 dumps on 4.21 or 4.30 and 3.55 because, maybe if i get my ps3 fixed soon, i will be porting this but with lv2 dumps it can be more easier for me.

Or maybe some devs can take this and port it to 3.55, 4.21, 4.30 lv2, there are redirect jumps on htab functions, copy in/out way on memory, the redirections are done in that time on 0x600000 (Because i patch on 3.56 other wx permisions on htab) lv2 space but i think it can be more easy to do on lv2_kernel.self using some extra space on the start.

i get this patches on 3.56 but it was based on some old 3.41 work from kammy.

When the offsets are corrected and ported you can test and run this patcher before launch for example this psx emu with interpreter OFF(NO) and bios HLE off(NO) so you use any bios from psx and then it will use his dynarec made by anonymous long time ago that work faster with some games but have too bugs.

    ps3sx_Beta.pkg

This is ps3sx last ver compiled by anonymous so you can use this to test the dynamic recompiler execution capability it can run if you have run before the dynarec patcher so lv2 will be ready run JIT code.

if you try to test this ps3sx (Launch any iso) in dynarec mode (interpreter NO) without dynarec execution enabled on lv2 it will be on Black screen but if you have the capability on lv2 to run JIT code you will see something like this:

The Dynamic recompiler code execution on the PS3 will help in DOSBOX(A more powerfull cpu), PSX, N64, NDS projects.

Now public to everyone that want the source, thanks to anyone.

Thanks for your contributions and sorry about because my english is not so good.
