I fail to beleive that the PS3 is capable of doing SO much that scentists are using it as a super computer, but it cannot play PS2 games without that emotion engine crap. It's gotta be possible. Anyone heard anything?

Just buy a 400-500 Euros PS3 DECH-A00A - then you can play PS2 games natively.
There's next to no chance of a PS2 emu ever running decently on PS3. Perhaps if the PCSX2 devs get involved with a total rewrite then maybe - but still, it's a long shot.
^ the firmware sony releases is the same for all models, so those files are useless on non bc ps3s.
