Software for developers is either open source like java, or that buy the rights to use it. Or they get sued by the creator ..... As you can see by sonys actions people with money will sue over anything. espically when its other people with money there sueing so if you think any legit programmer will risk losing every thing he has when he can give up 5 10% of what he has for the rights of software your wrong.

This may not be far from the truth, but its probably the reason you dont typically have to worry about feds knocking on your door for playing nintendo roms you dont own.

It doesn't matter if they are being hypocritical or not. They are doing this to protect themselves. They are less likely to be sued by multi-billion dollar corporations if they aren't writing backup managers. Give the guys a break already.

I am retarded, and you talk about shrimp boats!

One suggestion, go to google and read about abandonware and all the rules involved in it! yes there are rules!, i have been in the scene for far to long to know them, and i have been longer in the emulation scene.

Next time avoid trying insult someone, and answer in a more mature way.

And i get it, this is the argument that all you backup manager lover use, to make it look alright to pirate your stuff.

i don't know why people feel there is a need to insult others for no reason..
If you want to make a point state it.. don't act BIG for no reason
bootleg banned another 1 of them today though
"Failure to observe the rules of common sense discussion can and will result in a ban without warning.
I pity the fool who breaks the rules."

Ok lets take for example the very first mario game...

Mario's image is iconic and so is the character Mario and there is still a copyright on it... Do you have a right to distribute Mario / Mario related merchandise ? Maybe the that particular game falls under abandoned ware but I do not see the image of Mario ever falling under that

So when I start distributing illegally backed up software containing mario am I not committing a crime ?

If not Mario what about, Games that contain advertising images did I buy or do I have the rights to distribute software that has coke in it ?? no but the game company did..

What about zelda games and final fantasy or the software used to make the games I'm sure that copy right has not expired either

What about games that play like books and the books are still being sold on shelves ?

Or Nintendo who never lost the rights to there game decides to port it to a new system exactly as the same game but you already played it illegally so you will now not buy it.

Tell you what you want to solve this debate walk into the FBI with a hard drive full of roms and ask them if its ok if you have these

That's not exactly what I meant. They may use %100 legit software once they start working for corporations, but how do they learn to use apps like Adobe CS or Game engines like Havok. I know there are a free development tools out there, but wouldn't you have a better chance of getting hired if you were already familiar with commercial apps?

Roms are illegal if you dont own the original, emulation is legal.

Same with games run with backup managers but who does own all those games they download

Most game programmers have a college degree, and don't colleges teach things like adobe CS, and then don't the people intern places to learn the software as Im sure when they graduate college they dont just apply to one company they apply and intern and go to who ever will take them.

And then they learn the software.. Why learn the game engine Havok if you dont even know your going to work for a company that uses it ? learn general graphic design and programming that learn to apply it where you go.
