Is it necessary to use the USB cable that is packaged with the Xport in order to get the software to function properly? Or can you use ANY USB cable with the PL2301 chip? All of the stores in my area seem to be out of stock on the Xport, and many of them said they don't plan to restock (although no one had a definite reason why). I have the PC software, and i have a Gamshark CD that i can use to get the software to work, so all that i need is a way to connect the PS2 and the PC. So will any PL2301 cable work?
Actually the xport cable doesn't use the Prolific PL2301 chipset. Xport (and sharkport) cables use the Cypress an2720 chipset.
The Cypress an2720 and Prolific PL2301 are not the same, and thus a PL2301 USB<->USB cable will not work with the Xport/sharkport software.
Besides, you need the Xport/sharkport CD. The Gameshark CD won't work (from what I have been told at least..)
On the other hand... If you have a modded PS2 you can use naplink via a PL2301 cable (but not the xport cable :( although all the specs are available for the Cypress an2720 chipset so I wish the people who work on naplink would add support for the xport cable... ).
You can always buy the xport online and often get free shipping.
Yo i used a normal pc link cable (USB) i just installed the drivers that came with the software i downloaded from www.codejunkies.com Uk , o and you dont need the cd if you have a actionreplay 1.9+ i ekspect this whould be the same with the gameshark ,
pc the software is the latest software for the actionreplay (it is by compatible both action replay and gameshark)
I have a generic Compusa USB cable that works with both xport/sharkport and naplink...
