because when the ps2 uses the ps2 hardware the ps1 hardware gets locked out and vice versa. ps1 from the hdd would have too be done with software emulation because to use the hd the ps2 would have to be in ps2 mode

it would be cool but someone would need to wright a software ps1 emu for the ps2

Yes the PS2 uses the I/O processor to run PS1 games but at the same time the I/O handles the HDD so you can only have one or the other, like said above only software emulation of PS1 capabilities this can be achieved but unfortunetley its too much work for homebrewers to do.

Maybe mp-a was referring to the PSX DESR unit and not to the ps1...

i see..so the only option is an emulator if we want hdd support.

im just surprised theres nothing, and heres why:

    1. pc emulators epsxe and bleem.
    2. working emulator on xbox, with hdd support.
    3. psp even plays psx games.

not sure which is open source...the psx bios is easy to find.

there has to be a way to store and run psx games with hdd support.
if i was a homebrew developer id work around the clock and find it.

ive got about 300 games that are rotting away with time..and..i dont know..
if anyone can do it, id bet dark alex could..id pay him if i could, lol.

Wait Xbox can store and play PSX games? When did this happen? Also is it hard to manipulate PSX game ISO's to make them work on PSP because I have two games (both w/ japanese voices but english text) that no one has made PSP friendly and I want to do that so I could play these games.

The PS2 is too slow to emulate a PS1. The only reason the PS1 emulator on the PSP works so well is because Sony knows their own hardware to emulate it and the PSP was designed from day one with the PS1 emulation in mind.
