Turn your ps2 into a pc
Is someone working on a pc emulator for the ps2, reason being, if this can be cracked in a fashion then you could use emulators like zsnes and virtualboy adavnce and run them on your ps2 without doing any porting. Them main reason i would like it to work is to get a descent mame emu to run on ps2 and gba emu too. The pc emu would be in theory the on emu you would then need. Don't expect n64 emus, etc to run, but vba and zsnes would. This could be the thing that would knock the xbox of the top slot for emulation.

IMO, I don't think this is a good idea since the PC & PS2 are 2 different systems. It might be possible to port DOSBOX & be able to play the old DOS games on PS2 but emulators need to be ported since the PC & PS2 are 2 different systems. Also, the PC's keep getting powerful all the time & this makes it almost impossible to make a PC emulator.

i think someone a while back ported a prliminary of bochs to the ps2.. not sure it if was sucessful or not. the bottom line is, the ps2 will run a base OS such as dos or linux easily.. but running things which require more access to specilsed areas such as the graphics chip i think will be ALOT harder to make work. so even if there is a x86 emu out for ps2, don't expect to be running xwindows or xp any time soon! :D

Umm... that makes little sense though... emulate PC and then emulate SNES/MAME? The PS2 has a 333mhz processor, 32mb of ram. That's really what you need to emulate on a PC, but it's in my experience, the bare minimum. If you're emulating the PC too... urg... that'd be so slow.
And the XBox will probably always have better emulation because it has better capabilities (hardware). The processor and RAM are what? Twice that of a PS2. And the XBox's ram is DDR. So yeah...

Well, also the reason why the XBOX has so many emulators is that the XBOX uses PC hardware & SDL was ported to XBOX & this is the main reasonn why the XBOX has many emulators because many of them were written using the SDL library.

well the DOS option does seem somewhat good though, since ZSNES DOS does run well on my 166mhz tablet pc running win98. given that data, with some kind of sound, video, and input emu along with basic DOS running, there would no doubt be a good selection of games to play on the PS2. SNES, NES, many of the lower end emus, older games like tomb raider 1 and doom, etc..
GBA would be too much though, not even my tablet PC (which is MADE for windows/pc use) runs GBA anywhere near decent. GBC would be your best bet.

what's wrong with snes-station!? :O :p

well ZSNES is years ahead literally, and it supports the SNES's "3d" graphics engines etc..
of course it would just be an option if DOS was emulated. just imagine the other possibilities (classics like sopwith camel, prince of persia 1/2, and even lode runner) :)

Why not just use ps2linux and find emulators that were written for linux.
