Hi,
Before everyone slates me i did do a search and could only come up with a couple of threads giving links to downloadable .max saves already loaded with an elf.
What i want to know is how to transfer one to my MC using my usb (ARMax v3) e.g launch elf or *** exp.. i want to be able to transfer my elfs and test'em without wasting disks.

hi,
get the savebuilder
then just create a new save, add your elf´s and save as a max-file.
copy that max-file over to your usb-thumb drive (by the way, you don´t have to use the original one, others work too)
then boot up your ps2 with the ar max evo disk and choose the max memory option (the 2nd from left) there choose your usb select the max file and uncrunch it to your mc. done.
now i don´t know if this will work for shure, i only got my ps2 last week and im waiting for my mc to arrive, so i couldn´t test this myself.

oh, and one more thing, when choosing the media player in the ar max menu you can also start elf´s from your usb, but not all will work, i only got realmedia and pgen to work right now

By the way when i click on media player it asks for my user name and pswd and i cant do much else. Am i doing summit wrong?

sorry, can´t really help on both of those.
try leaving it blank maybe, see if that works.
with the password i have no idea, never asked me for a password, you sure you choose mediaplayer, cause ar max also has some instantmessenger build in , thats the only think that asks for username and password
Know anywhere where i can find a tutorial on creating a save using savebuilder?
I know that sounds "thick" but it's not actually on creating the save, but more so on creating say a launchelf save, so that i can convert it to .max save - transfer it to my usb and uncrush it to my mc.

maybe im missunderstanding, but all you have to do in savebuilder is start it up,do a rightclick on the grid on the left, choose "add file" from the contextmenu and choose your elf, then choose "save" from the savebuilder menu and save as max-file (no need to convert), that should be it. but maybe you mean something else.
sorry i don´t know of any tutorials
Well, I did do a small write-up at http://www.psx-scene.com/forums/showthread.php?t=25623 which shows you have to create an XPS save file using PS2 Save Builder. Goto the link above & follow it but when it comes time to save, save it as a .max file.

Ive had a read thru those articles and i must say "top" "stuff!".
I do however have a couple of Q's just to clear a couple of things up and
i'll be on my way...
1) If i were to install say *** explorer or LaunchELF on my MC using the ps2 save builder technique, will i have to rename the elf file to boot.elf and the root/id to BEDATA-SYSTEM or do i just follow your guide as if i was creating a save for pintor?
2) Why do i have to leave the 2 default files created when i click on new in ps2 save builder?
i) what if i delete them?
ii) what if i create my own .icn and icon.sys files?
iii) Can i extract a mc save icon from 'say' save A and apply it to 'say' save B using method above?
3) How do i launchElf once it's on my MC? (i know! noob or what!)
and finally
4) Is it possible to edit the menu.txt in the ***3 explorer save or better still is it possible to add apps to ***3 explorer via this method? i.e transfering to MC and editing the menu.txt?
