so what if the m3u file was located on the same computer as the stream provenan?

and also i have another question that could maybe help the cause. this web site says the ps2 is java compatible althought i can't find anything to lunch a java app on ps2
    Sony Integrates Java into PS2 | GameZone.com
    is it?
it would then be easy to load a java app that would receve the stream

I have rdesktop working in PS2-Linux and run programs and play music on my Windows XP PC from my PS2. The screen refresh is choppy though playing videos.

This link is for a package which can be installed on a PS2 with PS2-Linux already installed:
    rdesktop-1.6.0.tar.bz2 - 4shared.com - online file sharing and storage - download

It is surprisingly quick. I run it with the following options for video size, sound, and compression:
    rdesktop -g 90% -z -r sound:local:oss 192.168.0.14

192.168.0.14 is the example IP address of my Windows XP PC with the "terminal server" service turned on.

So the PS2 can do the same thing as the PS3, perhaps slower though. I am also interested in a streaming application, as rdesktop did not impress me with video streaming.

I'm pretty sure it was figured that it's nothing more than vaporware. That website hasn't changed or updated in 2-3 years.
