is it possible to run codebreaker from the hdd mass or memcard?
Yes, some versions of CodeBreaker work fine from any media, though some other versions do not. There are also some variations in _how_ they work.Originally Posted by Grudge1981
For example:
v7.0 starts fine from HDD, even with empty CDVD tray. After choosing cheats you can insert the game disc, or an HDLoader boot disc to run the game from HDD (with cheats active).
v9.2 starts fine from HDD, but requires some disc in the CD tray (any disc will do), as with v7.0 you can choose cheats and then start the game you want. There are some other versions too that work similar to v9.2.
If you want to run games via HDL, I suggest you have the HDL CD in the CDVD tray before starting CodeBreaker, as there may be disc swap issues. Such issues are also dependent on the mod-chip you have (if any).
For example, with Matrix Infinity I could swap discs as I pleased. But with DMS4-Pro I have to keep the tray closed when starting the game, so I need to have the right disc inserted before starting CodeBreaker.

ok cool man, how did you run it? i tried off hdloader but i just got a purple screen, even with playing with the modes. I also tried running the main file renamed as en elf on my jump drive and it just froze up.
i havent played with it much but i assumed changing the extention to .elf would work since it had the same header as an elf file and all.
should i just copy the file to the hd with launchelf and launch it?
do i need to worry about the dummy files if i copy the elf file to the hd?
Correct. No version of CodeBreaker that I know of can work from HDL. Instead you need to use a normal file partion to store the CodeBreaker ELF. Then you can start it from LaunchELF, like you would any other ELF file.Originally Posted by Grudge1981
I assume 'jump drive' refers to a USB storage device. If so, then I can confirm that v9.2 does work well from USB, though it does take some time to start up. The file to use is of course the SLUS_202.02, suitably renamed.I also tried running the main file renamed as en elf on my jump drive and it just froze up.
(I named mine "CodeBreaker v9.2.ELF")
That's what I did, and it works fine.i havent played with it much but i assumed changing the extention to .elf would work since it had the same header as an elf file and all.
However, remember what I said last time about v9.2.
You MUST have some disc in the tray when you start that ELF.
Otherwise it will lock up completely with a black screen.
Sure, that should work fine, though I prefer to also set up a proper launch key for it in LaunchELF, so I don't have to browse to that HDD folder every time.should i just copy the file to the hd with launchelf and launch it?
No. You only need the SLUS_202.02 file.do i need to worry about the dummy files if i copy the elf file to the hd?

sounds cool ,where could i obtain such an .ELF of codebreaker ?![]()
yea i was browsing the net and found some more info on it. it seems i need a disk in the drive for it to work.im gussing it might need to be a ps2 disk not a ps1 for it to work, as im getting nothing from the file. ill have to wait till i get home to test that tho.
the only reson im trying to get it to work is im trying to find out if 9.x will detect non official hdd in the ps2 for mem card management (since the ps2 browser doesnt) and i dont want to shell out $20 for a new codebreaker if the only feature i want from it doent work for me
why not use uLaunchElf for memory card management... and broodje, you could try look for an ISO of a codebreaker disc and then you will find the elf inside it... named SLUS_*
Does it work on a non-modded ps2?![]()
I use codebreaker 9.0 running on the HDD. I use the DMS HDD Explorer or uLaunchELF to run it.
Haven't tested 9.2 yet though.
There are a few advantages to using the CB MC manager.... such as tagging files and zippping them to MC or USB.... and doesn't the new version allow for storage of data on a HDD?
