Rockbot - a Megaman-like game
Rockbot - a Megaman-like game –
I, together with my wife, am creating a game-engine, to be like Megaman classic series. It is based on the SDL, so is multi-platform and supports Playstation 2. It will have and editor (Qt based, will not run on the PS2), so anyone will be able to create games for it, using his own graphics and sound. In theory, you will be aven able to port Megaman 9 and 10 to PS2 in the future
The code is available in sourceforge - it is meant to be clean and clear, so do not worry about it being over simplistic - and you can get it, binaries and information in http://www.rockbot.upperland.net/.
Anyone willing to help with code, graphics, music or ideas is welcome. Here are some screenshots of it running on Linux:
Bloody brilliant! I grew up on the Megaman Franchises, and have always wanted a proper Mega Man clone engine! Best of luck!
I'm interested in helping with some graphics depending on how much time I get. I'm assuming the graphics need to be pixel based (no anti-aliasing). Is there a program better designed to making the graphics (like a pixel editor) rather than using photoshop for example? Are there specific graphical size requirements?

Well, for background tileset, the size is 16x16 pixels. I am using a modified NES pallete for graphics, but currently I only have it in Gimp (a photoshop-like tool well-known for Linux, but that also runs on Mac and Windows).
If you have interest, I can send the palette to you.
For sprites, I have no limit, but the game runs on 320x200 resolution, so it should not be way too big that do not fit the screen
I just had a chance to try this out yesterday.
It´s looking good.
keep up the great work.
