read onley problem

I wish to make some changes to an officall game for my amusement
I am running XP

so I copyed everything from the disk to my computer but for some reason

everytime I go to the properties of the folder I put um in then uncheck the Read-onley/ then choose "Apply changes to this folder, subfolders and files, then I perss OK BUT then after that I choose properties again the read onley box is still checked what is up with that?

takin care of I ran I viris scan found one that was causeing this problem its working fine now
