question about dev.installer 1.0 .....

in the readme that came with dev.installer 1.0, it says:

dev.installer is an application for your PS2 that will let you to include
into a cd various homebrew applications, and with the pressure of a key it
is possible to launch these applications or to install them (singly) in DEV.1, moreover it allows the cancellation of the MC0:/BOOT/ folder, also when this results being a damaged block.

what does installing mean ??? does it create a hdloader partition or something ? and if i *install* and application, will it in any way damage my hdloader games ????

actually, i dont

, .....i know it probably has something to do with some modchips, but got no idea,..never looked into it..........cud u please tell me what it is, and also please answer the above question.......
