Is the mem card an official Sony memory card or 3rd party, because if you're trying to use those in PS2 it won't work as Sony has blocked them as far as I know.

You'd have to format a 3rd party PS1 mem card with an actual PS1, even then you can't write anything to it using a PS2.

For a formatting utility google ps2 memory card killer, I'm pretty sure that caters for PS1 cards as well.

I have official memory card(graycolored one) and unofficial(blue-halftransparent with number, i think it something like 8 in 1). I tried to format first one, but it says Formating failed. Second one not even recognized by console, though it's indicator show some red numbers spontaneously... Anyway thanks for info about ps2 memory card killer, Xeauron, i'll try to find it.

    One topic above You. ;]

http://psx-scene.com/forums/f19/rele...-v2-0-a-65652/ (Release: MC Annihilator v2.0) It's most superior than MC Kill and MC Formatter (and as i remeber, they support only PS2 MC).

But if Your PS2 doesn't regonize mc card, You do nothing with it whatever app You'll use. On PSX side there's app callled Memory Card Manager. In this times probably hard to find.

I've got a SPCH-90001 and a "Pelican" brand PS1 memcard and that seems to function fine in it, perhaps only certain models have this issue?

I'm not 100% sure if it's a model issue, but I have 2x SCPH 30003 and a slim 79003 and 2 unofficial ps1 mem cards in my possession. Neither of which seem to work in my PS2s. It can read them, just not write to them, it says game saved successful but no save game is written and it's the same story for uLaunchELF - unable to write to them. For that I purchased 4x official grey mem cards which work a treat for £2.

I remember reading somewhere Sony blocked them, which seems to fit with my not being able to use them.
