is it possible to play mp3 or divx in unmodified ps2?

Yes, though you need a modded ps2 to upload the player to a memcard. Using an exploit icw an original ps1 disc, you can actually boot the player on an unmodded ps2.
Never actually tried it myself.

then you need also mcloader and cdx or use the ethernet
