PS2Dev SDK Toolchain updates?

Is it me or does with every new revision it break something

I see even the most experienced dev's having a hard time maintaining a working dev enviroment, it's one of the many reasons why I haven't yet bothered to install it, I tried it before once with programmers notepad last year but for love no money I couldn't get it working

not even a simple hello world elf.

I had some problems like that too - that's also why I've been holding my PS2SDK installations back at r1689.
