PS2 MaME 4 Player

Hi i was wondering if PS2 Mame will ever become 4 Player, i was talking to Rotosound and he said not currently but i was wondering if there was anything under development to make MaMe 4 player (over multitap) for games such as Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and more.

If the mame source was updated it should work. There using an old mame source for the ps2 version.
