PS2 HDLoader Emulation
PS2 HDLoader Emulation –
08-08-2011,10:01 PM
Heya, newbie here with a question. :P
Before I begin, I shall explain exactly what items I have available/installed so that once I explain what I'm trying to do, it will be clear what options are open to me:
Software - uLaunch, FMCB, ESR, HDLoader, SMS, FMCB Configurator, Codebreaker 10.0 and WinHiip.
Hardware - 320 GB HDD+PS2 Network Adapter, Fat PS2 (obviously), USB to IDE adapter, and USB drive.
What I'm trying to figure out is a way to get the SNES Station HDD2 and PGEN emulators (along with the roms) unto the HDD I got in my PS2. I've found a couple of threads via google that purported to explain how to do so, but they were all outdated and linked to places that no longer existed. I have, however, run across something called MyPS2, and will try using that to partition a section of my HDD for the emulators/roms before plopping them unto that new partition (as explained by drkshen midway down the page in this thread: h t tp : / / forums .afterdawn . c o m / th read_ view. cfm/471187).
I'd like to know 2 things; is there a better method than using MyPS2, and if not, then how am I supposed to transfer the whole MyPS2 folder to my memcard? (I would imagine codebreaker+USB just as I did when installing FMCB, but codebreaker couldn't detect the folder on my USB drive as I recall, only the ELF).
That's it basically. I heard using SNES Station HDD2 could be slow when used on a HDD with lots games, so if there is a quicker version, I'm all ears. Also, as an aside, if anyone knows of a way to get PS1 games onto a HDD, I'd love to know (I thought of maybe using a PS1 emulator for a work around, but not sure if one exists). I shall begin experimenting to see if I can get MyPS2 onto my memcard, but I plan to fail, so by all means feel free to respond. Thanks.

i will give you some info a brief one .
Yes Myps2 is out of dated you can use uLE to create a partition on your HDD and store your stuff .
anyway i think you best use SNES usb Version since its more stable than HDD version (afaik)
and you can get SNES USB Version and HDD version either here or look at sksapps site

never heard of that alot of games + Emu makes slow down .only if you use too much roms per game .
and there is no way to put PS1 Games onto hdd currently you may try PS2PSXe here in this thread :

I succeeded in making a MyPS2 partition last night by plopping the files onto my USB, finding them under the uLaunch file directory, and then launching the elf. I put all my roms/emulators on the partition just like I said I would, but I encountered problems with both emulators. For PGEN, I tried out a plethora of games and only got 2 working (both were sports games >_<), and the rest I would get an error saying "rom is too small to load" or some such sort (there was one instance of doom 32x going to a black screen and not loading). Tried SNES as well, but each time I tried to go to where my roms were located on the HDD, it wouldn't display them (same for when I tried locating them on the USB).
In the end I've decided not to bother, I'll just emulate these systems on my PC where it'll be more stable (though this is disappointing as I intend to make my PS2 portable, and it would be nice to play sonic/mario along with FF7 and God of War xD). Anyways, I just need to figure out how to remove these partitions that were created on my HDD. I'll look for that partition feature in uLaunch that you spoke of amp2006, but feel free to say where it's at. Thanks for the help.

I checked, and it is possible to see the partitions via uLaunch - it's not possible to do anything to them with the R2 menu, however. I've also tried the DMS format tool, but that kept freezing on the startup screen and would never load. Looks like I'm stuck with that 3GB partition I made in MyPS2. ; /

R2 menu ?
What do you mean by that ?
The only menu opened with the R2 button in uLE is the FileBrowser shortcut popup, which is used only for quicker media navigation, and nothing else.
That menu does not contain any commands of any kind, so it is of course unable to do anything about your HDD partitions (except navigate the FileBrowser into them, when you use a shortcut defined for HDD, if you've made any).
To create/delete/modify partitions you would need not the FileBrowser but the HddManager (can be started via FileBrowser, as "MISC/HddManager").
And in that subprogram it is the R1 menu which contains commands for partition operations.
But uLE only allows creation/modification of "User" type partitions (the ones with "+" prefix), but never "System" or "Application" type partitions (the ones with "__" prefix or no prefix, respectively).
however. I've also tried the DMS format tool, but that kept freezing on the startup screen and would never load.
You probably have too large HDD for it, as it is capable of dealing correctly only with HDDs smaller than 128 GiB.
Some people have tried to patch it to use newer libs for larger HDDs, but I don't consider that safe, as the program then still uses variables badly dimensioned (too few bits) to handle such HDD sizes. So even if the libs are capable of dealing with large HDDs, the main tool program is not.
Looks like I'm stuck with that 3GB partition I made in MyPS2. ; /
Yes. Since MyPS2 uses an application-specific partition, uLE is not allowed to modify it.
So you'll be stuck with it until/unless you reformat the HDD. If I were you I'd try to find some sensible use for it (media files, gamesave PSU backups, etc).

I think he was talking about the main "MyPS2" partition, which that program considers mandatory.
I also think it was created even without asking permission, and the program will not permit it to be removed.

Yes, that is spot on. As regards to before, I meant the R1 submenu which allows you to delete files. In any case, you explained things rather thoroughly and unfortunately that partition won't be going anywhere until I upgrade to a larger sized HDD - I might try putting my save data on it since my memory cards are overflowing atm (wasn't even aware you could till you said so, lol). In any case, I really appreciate your guys' help, and thanks!
