I agree that working out the file system would help some stuff... but then too, that's only assuming you want to use the hdd for the games that support it, too. If you only want to use it for homebrew, then it doesn't matter, as long as you are consistent.

So you're interested in making a MIPS port of Linux hey? Good luck with making all the drivers for it Nah seriously, that would be ideal. To have drivers for every device on the PS2. That would help development immensly. But there is a helluva lot of work involved in that.

I've been on the ps2ownz.com irc channels in the last days with jigga.. Those guys were busy trying to figure out the HDD. They didn't get anything working but they did had the v0.1 BB Navigator Disc 1. One dude called dvdrick found a way to get it running but it didn't work completely for him because the hdd wasn't 'certified'. I made the same changes and it formatted the HDD using PFS (PlayStation FileSystem... which is the correct name).. I've also made similar changes to a copy of my original BB Navigator v0.2 DVD (it actually started this time) but additional 'copy' checks were on it causing it not to work. The v0.1 disc kept installing until it asked for disc 2 (snifff), which I didn't have. I'll try to use the v0.1 installer to install the v0.2 stuff (since that's the only one I have complete here). Before I do this I'd appreciate a directory listing of the contents of disc two to avoid toasting my last 3 CDRs on this.

Regarding a free MIPS port of Linux.. There is one... You still need the PS2 Linux RTE to boot it.. Actually there are more.. One based on Debian and one on FreeBSD if I remember correctly.

Yeah, but it should be harder since some game support booting the game from the browser without any game disc inserted. At the moment I think only FF XI support that feature.

    Hello!

I found something at the ps2ownz news site...

PS2 HDD progress made- we're able to format, partition, and save on NON-$ONY drives including a standard IDE Maxtor and a standard Western Digital (bad luck with a Quantum though... still examining that issue)

HDD-supported games (JAP) and utility discs (i.e. N/A disc) now work with a NON-$ONY drive using a custom driver hack of ours!

Maybe we will see the solution soon.

    Bye

Uh yeah what you don't know is that the server that contained that info got wiped out and the only people that "supposidly" (no proof at all) have the app are the internal members of ownz. I think they are full of crap myself.

I know what you mean but I don't think it's entirely true.. nor are their claims unless they prove otherwise.... Formatting a HDD correctly is peanuts... that hacked driver is what I'm interrested in.
