hi team , i have a Guncon-45 and it works with some PS2 games ie

    Time Crisis 2 [NTSC-US]
    Vampire Night [NTSC-US]
    Ninja Assault [PAL]

but wont work with some other [NTSC-US] and [JAP] titles

    namely

    Time Crisis 3 [NTSC-US]
    Time Crisis Crisis Zone [NTSC-US]
Gunvari Collection + Time Crisis [JAP]

    apparently

    Time Crisis 3 [PAL]
    Time Crisis Crisis Zone [PAL]

will work with the Guncon-45 , but i hate PAL video mode as it runs in 50hz mode and about 25% slower than NTSC 60hz.

Is there a way to make those 2 PAL games run in NTSC 60hz mode , or patch the games to accept Guncon-45 ?

    any info kicks

Uh yeah, as a matter of fact you could try the brand new still in development GS Mode selector developed right here on psx-scene.

http://psx-scene.com/forums/showthread.php?t=61808 (GS Mode Selector: Development & Feedback)

Run it before the game and force the game to 480i mode and see if it works. Please do report you finding to the thread above, as I don't believe anyone has tried it with a G-con game yet.

I am quite interested to know the results.

If that doesn't work, there is the old PAL to NTSC patching method. I have done this with the Virtua Cop Elite Edition (PAL), and it worked fine.

Those patching programs should be over at sksapps site. I can't remember which one works best ATM.

I would buy a newer G-con2 though. Just to use it on Gunvari Collection alone is worth it.

hiya urbigbro , thanks for your interest and reply

    i tested these apps

    do not work

    ps2_vfix_2005
    ps2 yfix V1.07

    workingish

    ntsconv4
    adrpatcher059ap
    GSModeSelector_v0.15

when i say workingish i mean , 576i to 480i OK , Guncon Calibration OK , image stretched out of screen yes (at the bottom) , in game fps OK no slowdowns , pre rendered scenes there is slowdown and audio cut in and out.

urbigbro , i would love to get about 4 Guncon 2's but the 3 i already have are total fakes from China or Russia or simlar i bought them off random sellers on eBay. Guncon-45's the success rate in obtaining real ones is much better thats why i want to get them. If i could get real 2's somehow i would , i did play Gunvari Collection and it was a blast i played them on my cab (see below)

do you or anyone else have any suggestions in obtaining real 2's or someother brilliant idea ?

It kind of sux how Namco included Guncon-45 support in Time Crisis 3 PAL but not in NTSC.

The effects will vary from game to game, but all real PAL screens will have problems in a physical NTSC resolution, no matter what tool you use. A PAL screen is able to display 512 visible scanlines (out of the theoretical 625), while an NTSC screen is only able to display 448 visible scanlines (out of the theoretical 525).

Fortunately many PAL games were originally designed for NTSC, so their PAL screens normally consist of 448 lines truly used by the game, surrounded by black border lines at top and bottom. For such cases PAL-NTSC adaption is mainly a matter of properly centering the display so as to make all the significant 448 lines visible. But this is something GSM v0.15 is unable to do right.

The slowdown is harder to understand though, as I'd rather expect the opposite when playing a game intended for 50Hz VSync(PAL) in a physical mode using 60Hz VSync(NTSC).

In any case you will be able to get better results with a current version of GSM like v0.19 or v0.20, instead of the v0.15 you have. That version did not allow any user control of screen centering like the newer versions do. But when you try the new GSM versions, be prepared for an entirely different user input method. Most commands now use 2-button combos, while the screen positioning and sizing commands use the joysticks.

Note that GSM will accept all commands using either gamepad slot, so you can have a normal gamepad in slot 2 and use this for commands, if that is easier than using the special controller I assume you prefer to have in slot 1.

    Best regards: dlanor

I have never seen a fake guncon 2 in the US. You could try buying one from someone here I guess, or buy a game plus guncon 2 bundle. I know for a while at gamestop they had a bundle of Crisis Zone with two guncon 2s included for around $40. This was over a year ago though.

Alternatively the LCD top gun is hihgly reviewed, but also hard to find for sale. Everywhere I've looked so far is sold out.

urbigbro + dlanor you 2 are superb thanks for everything so far.

i have 3 Guncon 2's and each are fakes imo , 1 is Black JAP , 1 is Orange US and the other is Blue PAL i have opened each one up and with the Orange US 1 it has no NAMCO markings on the PCB's i was contacted by a racketboy member who had HMV bought Orange US G-Con 2's and he opened it up. He said there were NAMCO markings on certain parts of the PCB's. These Guncon 2 fakes are widespread and in great numbers. I beleive Guncon 3 is now in production by these manufacturers so please be careful people.

I bought my Orange Guncon 2 from a family who had enough of video gaming so they sold it on eBay.

I know for a while at gamestop they had a bundle of Crisis Zone with two guncon 2s included for around $40
thats a sweet deal i will hunt around for that deal from similar reputable retailers in the US , thanks for that info.

I have seen that Light Gun before and prefer a NAMCO one , but will keep it in mind as a last resort thanks for checking around for stock too.
