I have downloaded MAME, PVCS (4 versions), SNES9X, and various others. I have done everything right. I have read, re-read, tried many different things. All in capitals, all with the ROMS loaded in the correct place. Burned ISOs, Used USB, all to no avail. All I get is a black screen using these emulators.

I'm very computer literate, have FREE McBoot, HD Loader ESR, SMS and ULAUNCH all working. My Network Card and Hard Drive work well, and my console is a FAT (obviously - with a hard drive attached)

One thing that occurred to me is tha maybe these emulators re programmed to run NTSC. I have a PAL Playstation 2.

Any suggestions would be appreciated. AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH

It's just frustrating the life out of me. I really have researched to the max, and can't find any answers here or elsewhere, and I'd dearly love to get at least the ATARI 2600 emulator and the MAME emulator to work...

I read somewhere that instead of a composite cable, a component cable might help? Can anybody verify?

Everything will work with a composite cable. The software itself cannot determine the type of cable connected anyway.

If you get a black screen (Opposed to "No signal" detected by your TV set), it's probably a freeze up. This usually happens if your console has a modchip that interferes with homebrew software. Try disabling your modchip if you have one installed.

I used a USB stick. pvcs works really well. MAME has a splash screen, then a black screen. All set to PAL

Bizarrely, neither work if I navigate to CD and launch from there. Navigating to a USB stick works for pvcs, and partially (at least to the splash screen) for MAME, so it's not a PAL/NTSC problem.
    Any suggestions?

Try a different USB device. The USB drivers of some (older) software are not too good, and freeze when used with certain USB devices (Or when faced with hotplugging).

And try to disable your modchip if there is one. It has got nothing to do with whether the CD/DVD drive is in use or not, but with whether the modchip messes up some parts of the console that the software you are attempting to boot uses.

There is very easy solution. Use OPL with GSM (latest), configure there apps section and set GSM settings into PAL. Thats all it will force all apps into pal mode (not only games )

That is only required if his TV set only supports the PAL video mode.

If only PAL is supported by his television set, he should just use GSM on it's own. Why use that integrated version of GSM that is embedded within OPL? He's trying to launch emulators, and not use only OPL.

Hello, I have a PAL Playstation 2 too and for use programs in ELF in format NTSC in my PS2, I use PS2_vFix.
I pick the ELF and convert the ELF in format NTSC to format PAL and works well.

This is the link for the program: www .mediafire. com/?tep74lfv9p8cc7g (delete the spaces)

First, I run the program. I select the option "NTSC TO PAL" and push the button "Browse". In type (below of Name), select NTSC ELF files and browse your ELF. Finally push PATCH FILE.

Now put your ELF file in a USB Device and run with uLaunchELF.

Sorry for my English, I'm from Spain.

    Grettings!!

PS: If you patch uLauchELF with PS2_vFix, all the programs run with format NTSC with it will in PAL.

Thanks for the replies. I've found out it's not a PAL/NTSC problem. All is fine in that respect.

The Great news is I managed to get MAME to work. CD only though. How on Earth do you get MAME to work on a USB stick? I use OPL, create an ISO called MAME and save it to my USB. This shows up in OPL on my USB stick. OPL says it's fragmented though, and won't play. If I turn off the fragmented warning in OPL settings, the screen changes colour a few times before going white. No splash screen as on CD.
