first of i apologize if this is in the wrong section because it is a combo of like 2 or 3.

the idea of this post in my eyes is to make and test ps2 elf files on bc ps3s.

so far this is what ive got working on my bc ps3 with OFW 4.00 and swapmagic 3.8. feel free to contribute.

openps2loader- working but revisions are iffy i personally had to use r590 to get games to boot via network. USB IS UNTESTED ON MY HALF

UPDATED: uLaunchelf- working full usb support i used 4.27 for ps3. USB access is extremely fickle (ULAUNCHELF IS NOT MADE FOR PS3 WHEN I SAY FOR PS3 I MEAN A VERSION THAT HAD IRX FILES ADDED FROM OTHER VERSIONS OF ULAUNCHELF AND PSX LOADER)

more that ive tried but failed to load.

UPDATED: codebreaker .92- boots to black screen tried launching from usb and ps3 vmc with ulaunch and smboot from swapmagic. A codebreaker v9.3 retail disc is reported to work and allow cheats on ps2 games. After getting a disc i will look more into the 9.3 elf files

swapmagic coder retail disk- black screen tried reloading swapmagic after inputting codes to go to smboot

gsm- shows pretty logo then hangs at black screen. same results from ps3 vmc and usb via ulaunch

UPDATE: ESR- elf file loads. the ps3 allows you to switch discs without resetting. after hitting launch disc it hangs at the purple screen

more i think ppl would like to see but i personally havent tried

    usb advance/extreme/etc

hdloader/advance/etc- anyone waiting for this i personally wouldnt get my hopes up too high

psx loader- im sure ppl would love to see this but idk how theyd swap a disk without taking ps3 apart

    emulators
    psx
    snes
    gen
    nes
    and more idk

AGAIN, feel free to contribute. i have yet to come across a cumulative compatibility list or guides. i hope this expands and we get a full legitimate list and maybe even txt pdf downloadable guides or something similar

UPDATE: usb access with ulaunchelf on ps3 is extremely fickle i have gained and lost it twice now.

Codebreaker 9.2 elf wont work but i have read that the 9.3 disk works flawlessly. i will be trying different elf files to find a working one

why even bother with emulators? there are far better emulators running natively on ps3.

because this allows it on bc ps3s on ofw and doesnt require a jailbreak or cfw and will work on ofw 4.00 using swapmagic

ESR: the elf file loads. allow you to eject and insert esr patched disk. it states there is a dvdvideo in the drive. after hitting launch disc it hangs at a purple screen.

Does any version of SMS work? I got SP193's version modified for version 1 PS2 to at least load completely, but it won't play from my NAS (SMB).

I dont understand why you would need to run SMS on a PS3. The PS3 can read media files off a disc, usb device, its harddrive, and even a media server like a laptop or desktop computer. The files that SMS support that the PS3 does not i have never heard of. but a few questions.

is SMS working with files off a usb, cd, or dvd?

did you match up the ip address in the SMS network config with the connection settings on the ps3?

if using a crossover cable manually assign a static ip address in the connections settings of the ps3 and ensure it matches with the ip address in the network config for SMS?

make sure the computer used for nas has a static ip

The NAS and PS3 have static IPs. The NAS is actually "seen" by SMS, but hangs on reading. This is not a big deal, I also use the PS3 media interface, but find the SMS interface more convenient and familiar to me as I have been using it for many years. I could not get USB files to read either. I think there are bigger incompatibilities, which is why I was wondering if anyone else had a version that worked with the PS3. Thanks!
