Problems running Mame on PS2

Hello,

I have tried to run mame on my ps2 and i have come to a point where i need your help.
I have tried to build an own cd with the method descriped here

I can build and burn the CD with no problems.
Because i have an unmodified Ps2 without Mod-Chip I try to start the cd with cogswaploader and slidecard method.
Now I have the following problem. When I boot the mame cd I come to the screen where the ps2newz.net message is displayed.
Then the screen turns black and only a small blue frame remains on the screen. The CD keeps spinning but nothing else happens ...

I have an unmodified Pal V7 PS2.
Then i tried to download a complete mame-image with roms via emule and it works fine.
Has anyone any idea what i'm doing wrong ?

I DUNNO, try it again...are you unzpipping your roms into their own subdirectories? I'm sorry that I dont have all the same roms you do, or i'd build your layout personally, but it aint hard, FIRST, system.cnf, and fix the adress to LBA 12231.
Then drop in PS2MAME.ELF
SJPCM.IRX
GAMELIST.TXT
THEN ROMS

and build your image

put all your files in a directory C:\MAME
open this with cdgenps2 and drop in gamelist, then roms

oh yeah, the cd version flashes ps2news.net, screen, if it doesnt you have the naplink original version, wont work from the disc.

Is it important in which order i have to do the steps ?

This is how i tried it:

1. First i make a new folder.
2. Then i copy all the files from PS2N-PS2MaMe.zip
in this folder. The files are
gamelist.txt
p2mame.elf
ps2newz.nfo
SYSTEM
www.ps2newz.net
ps2mame.nfo
sjpcm.irx
ROMS

3. Now I copy the .zip Files directly in the roms folder. One Zip-file per game. I keep the roms in the Zip archive and don't make a single folder for each rom. Just the Zip-File nothing else

4. Now i Edit the gamelist.txt (all in Capital-Letters and without the extension). The Rom-Zipps are partly written in upper-case letters most are in lower case-letters. Is this important ?

5. Now I start cdgenps2 and I set LBA for System.cnf to 12231

6. The I build a iso.

7. This iso is now written to CD-R via Nero 5

O.K. Now you have an idea what i do. Perhaps it is important to fix LBA before copying roms or something like that. is it also possible that i need a different file for my pal PS2 here in germany,

Any ideas ?

UNZIP 'EM.

and the order you put them should be:
SYSTEM.CNF (@ LBA12231) then always you follow the system.cnf (boot-up file indicator...this is what tells the ps2 what is the main bootable file, so follow it with the named ps2.elf. d&d sytem.cnf into or open with "all files" NOTEPAD.EXE, if you have to, THIS IS PS2MAME's:

BOOT2 = cdrom0:\PS2MAME.ELF;1
VER = 1.00
VMODE = NTSC

NEXT, anything with and IRX or IOP extention, then last, any directories like "ROMS"
and again, UNZIP your roms into seperate files, named exactly like the zip, less an extention, these must match GAMELIST.TXT, and lastly, check your roms themselves, there are new revisions of roms, this is a ps2 port of MAME37, and after 37 was released they totally revised mame, and the roms that fop with, you need the OLD ONES

O.K. Meanwhile i have tried every thing else but with no success at all.

I have burned about 10 CD-Rs but must of them with the same result.

I have unpacked the ZIP Files in the Rom archive. One Folder for each game but without success. I don't even get the main Menu where i can select the Roms so i would assume that the error is already in some of the other files.
Because there are only a few files involved so I can not to too much wrong.

There are two textfiles
ps2newz.nfo and
ps2mame.nfo

I think they are not important and i don't think it would make any difference if these files are on the image or not. I have tried it with and without theses files. It doesn't seem to make any difference.

Then there ist the system.cnf. This is only a text file too, where the ps2 reads the specification which file to start (ps2mame.elf). i guess this file is correct too because i come to the ps2newz info screen. Without a correct bootloader it wouldn't come so far. i think the ps2newz screen is displayed from the ps2mame.elf so this program should be started correctly.

The system.cnf contains

BOOT2 = cdrom0:\PS2MAME.ELF;1
VER = 1.10
VMODE = NTSC

The Vmode is NTSC. I tried to change this to PAL (because we have PAL here in germany) but with this change it doen't boot anymore. The Image downloaded via emule has a system.cnf which also set VMODE=NTSC in this file so this should be o.k. too.

Then there a two binariy files
ps2mame.elf and
sjpcm.irx

I hope these files are in a correct version. can somebody check this ?

O.K. and last but not least there is the file gamelist.txt which i have modified. Everything is written in capital letters one game per line. I don't think that i can make something wrong here.
i will append this file to this posting.
The ROMS folder contains now 29 folders. But i have also tried it with the Zip-files. It doesn't make any difference.

I have a question about fixing the LBA. What does it means exactly ? Are these some magic sector offsets ? How does the LBA I specify for system.cnf has influence of the other files ?
I think it is best to drag and drop the system.cnf first, then change lba and then drag and drop the other files to get correct LBA entries for them too. But iI have tried meanwhile any other combination for D&D too. It is always the same. A blue frame and nothing else.
