So, i was unsure if posting here is correct - but i haven't found a better place (as, in fact - both sites of either emu seem to be down since quite some time now - and i DID try searching the forums).

I have a soft(un)modded ps2 slim with a small problem (the drive is broken - not just the laser but the pins of the cable of the drive ... don't ask) - so anyways, everything's fine about that since we have networking and usb support for most apps BUT ... lets get to the point

When trying to start ANY version (1.5.1/1.5.1s/abcd/codej/... it was unclear which was the latest) of PGen from my usbstick or memcard i get a "Loading."-ad infinitum (tested 30+ minutes). So i'm thinking it tries to request smth from the drive and due to lacking exceptions is doing that forever... this assumption was because prior revisions of PGen had been more focused on CD/HD support because it was in the earlier sdk's i guess.

Similar things happened when i tried SNES-Station (out of boredom) just that the drive-request code must be before the gui-initialization, which might be why i get a blank screen is-all.

I just want to load a sega mega drive rom from usb - so why must it "check" the drive if i could just tell it to load a specific rom from usb?

So basically my question is - am i right, and if - is there a workaround for that? and if not - would someone who is familiar with the code eventually fix that? D:

As far as I know, the official version of SNES-Station ONLY supports CD/DVD media, which could be you're problem. There are hacked versions that support USB, which you can google for if you feel inclined to do so.
You can also check out the PS2 version of SNES9x, which can be found here (Snes9x for ps2). Do note that it is a little old, however the author is currently working on a new version(which you can read about in the thread).

As for PGEN, I haven't used it much, but i've never had any problems. The one I've used is the one found here.

with the new snes9x port coming, of course i'm a little less interrested in snes station - tho it seemed like both pgen/snes-station have the same problem on my ps2 slim D:

i also stated that i already did test pgen 1.5.1 - when you use it -
does it have a obscene (30+min) long loading time?
    does the drive spin?
did you have to do anything else besides starting the emu from ulaunch?
did you load the roms from a usb drive?

would be cool to know if the error isn't on my part but with the initialization code of the emu :s

The only steps I take when starting PGEN is turning on the PS2 and selecting PGEN in uLE(my PS2 is set to boot FMCB directly into uLE)

The drive never spins on my side, even if I select CD-ROM for a ROM source.(Odd? drive does work fine)

As far as loading times go, It takes about 20 seconds to start without a USB device plugged in, and about 30 seconds with a USB device plugged in.

My PS2 is a v9(FAT) though. Have you tried starting PGEN WITHOUT a usb device plugged in? Maybe PGEN has the same problem as Codebreaker with slim PS2s? I have no idea.

    i just tried it :s

sadly the same problem prevails, which is kinda sad - and aggravating; since i don't get what the problem is or rather what else i could do O.o

i'll let a friend check it on his ps2 fat - i hope it wont work tho >.>

    thanks for the reply tho

    Hi!

i am getting the same error with PGEN and SNes Station...
My PS2 is a 90006 with Matrix Infinity chip.

I've noticed that uLaunchELF and SMS freezes too when I try to acess cdfs/CD/DVD. I need to disable CD/DVD to use them.

Maybe, I think, PGen/SNes Station freezes when they try to load the DVD as SMS/uLaunchELF.

There is a way to disable DVD in these programs?

    Anyone can help us?

    Thanks

also wanted to note that it happens in the i-version of the fceu port and for the "new" vice release... hmph :/

that leaves me with a single emu... the packed version of fceu :s
no doubt, there are some awesome roms for the nes - but it's kinda tiring to be stuck with it :s

especially when there are so many really nice mega drive games (esp. the yuyu hakusho fighting game from treasure! f.e.) :s
