Hi all,
I'll try to keep this brief.. after many years in a dark corner due to a dodgy laser and not being able to load anything I've finally discovered the delights of the elf. My ol' grandaddy v1/2 or 3 ps2 is coming out to play.
I've managed through fair means or foul to get fmcb v1.7 installed and working (hooray) I can now watch divx movies using sms, browse my mem card, I even got ace combat to run off of my pendrive, tada!! I've got uLaunch, ESR and HDloader in the boot menu on my mc...whooa
I've also managed to snatch an old network adapter from the bay at a reasonable price and I've got an old maxtor ide PC drive lying about.
I want to play games (some online) from the HDD.
here come the questions:
1. Is there a list somewhere of elfs and apps with an explanation of what they do? sks has a comprehensive list but no explanations?
2. I can only find OLD threads, 'cos this is old news I guess, but can I play online games from HDD? I gather i need to patch them with the correct dna's data.
3. If not can i patch the same game with esr and dna data to run from disk?
4. Is it all worth it? Are there any online gamers still out there playing ps2 and if so is there a list of games currently being played online?
5. what does xploder hdtv do and why (see question 1)?
Wow that was brief. Thank you in advance for your help.

Thank you to the 80 people that read this thread but didn't reply.
I have now found out the answers to most of my questions.
1. Still searching for a list of latest apps/elfs with explanations.
2. HDL and DNAS are incompatible.
3. YES i can patch an image with DNAS and ESR to run from disk.
4. Anyone still playing online?
5. Found xploder HDTV not tested it yet - where can i get the elf from?
Regards,

There is no need to be sarcastic.
When you ask for a comprehensive list of answers to completely unrelated questions like you did, you are really asking for a no-reply response, since many people will hesitate to post an incomplete set of replies, or one where they are not certain that each of the replies are correct. And in many cases people will not reply because the replies they can give would be no real help to you.
For example, here follows my own list of replies to your five questions:
1. Is there a list somewhere of elfs and apps with an explanation of what they do?
No.
2. I can only find OLD threads, 'cos this is old news I guess, but can I play online games from HDD? I gather i need to patch them with the correct dna's data.
I haven't the faintest idea of the details, since I don't use online games myself.
3. If not can i patch the same game with esr and dna data to run from disk?
Perhaps. Since I don't use such games I wouldn't know.
4. Is it all worth it? Are there any online gamers still out there playing ps2 and if so is there a list of games currently being played online?
Just as for question 2 and 3 above, I have zero interest in such games, and therefore zero info on how to play them or how many others do or where they do it.
5. what does xploder hdtv do and why (see question 1)?
Presumably something to do with HDTV, since that is in its name. Probably forcing games to run in HD resolutions, though that is just a guess based on the name, which you probably guessed at yourself too.
So now you have the answers I could have posted when first reading your original post, so now I have two questions for you:
Did any of those answers make you any happier ?
Or was it really just as well that I (and 80+ others) did not waste time and bandwidth on such unuseful answers ?
Best regards: dlanor

There is no magical list that contains all elf(s) ever made.
You can post your list of elf(s) you like know more info of.
Xploder HDTV its suck balls
(doesnt really works its just double pixel count from 512i source and originally made to play on VGA monitors, plus its only works on PS2 30000 model, XPHDTV software was quickly discontinued)

The reason most sites that host ps2 apps {such as sksapps} and dont give details is because most have a readme in them with the info about them.
The only way someone could list details for each app is to have some knowledge of all those apps they host and it isnt likely anyone would go thru all the apps, just to post the details too. Theres just too many for that.
Hopefully that answers question #1, the others questions would get a similar reply as dlanor gave, so im not bothering.
PS2 Consoles:
SCPH-30001 [V4] - unmodded (2)
SCPH-30001-R [V5] DMS4 Pro SE
SCPH-50001-N [V9] CC 2.0 SLE
SCPH-79001 [V16] Silver - unmodded

Thanks for the replies guys. I've now tried 2 x different versions of Xploder HDTV, and can't get either of them to work with my Samsung LCD 16:19 HDTV so don't think I'll bother (It went so trippy at one point, I'm sure it started to smoke). I finally got some of my old dvd's to load with HDL, games I've had for over 4 years and never been able to play, due to a faulty laser, so i'm a happy bunny. Also, I'm I'm enjoying the challenge of ripping, patching and installing. Bring on the PS3 scene.
