Hi. I'm brand-new to the PS2 dev scene... I just received my PS2 back from being moddified with a v2 DMS3 chip yesterday!

Here's the grit of my question, and I'll do my best to pose it in a way that no-one will become upset or need to modify this thread: if the development scene is at it's very heart a place where like-minds share their experiences and information, in order to better the scene, it's abilities and it's resources ... can someone exlpain to me what the deal is with the hostilities between DMS3 and PS2Reality. NOW, before this post gets deleted, modified, flamed, etc., the only reason I ask is that I'm trying to grasp 1) How many hoops I need to jump through in order to get the 1.5 Mediaplayer installed in DMS Browser, and 2) Why I have to jump through said hoops.

I understand that the dev scene, just like anything capitalistic in nature, gravitates towards money. Chip makers, cable producers, software providers, etc. all want to get something in return for their "contributions." And for the most part I'm ok with that -- heck, I just dropped cash on the modchip, more on the install, etc. Money makes our world go round...

...but the part I don't understand is this: I now have a fairly well-respected modchip (at least in some circles it is seen as such), a beautiful PS2 that may not hold a candle to an Xbox in terms of hardware capabilities, but still is the defacto system based on titles, performance (given its hardware limitations), and the fact that it has nothing to do with the MS juggernaut...

...and yet, I am struggling to find *cracked* versions of free software to utilize on my new moddified system (aka, RealityMediaplayer). I understand that there are huge portions of info that I must be missing -- because at the moment I can't fathom why two parties involved in the same scene make it so difficult for me to use both of their respective hardware / software. It seems, to me that we might all be better off, and invest more money into a scene where different parties work together, or at least refrain from directly attacking each other.

What's a guy like me to do? I've searched around and haven't found anything of value -- either in an explanation of why the bad blood, or *modified* software solutions to such problems. People say read these forums or that, and all they contain are people making views (personal, biased? views) that don't settle anything, clear up any questions, resolve any problems or help the scene in any way.

I realize that for most of you, this is spilt milk. I'm not trying to stir anything up, just looking for some clarification on the subject, in layman's terms, and perhaps direction to find the needed solutions.

Thanks for taking the time to read this...

    brian

NOTE TO MODERATORS: I understand you don't want DMS3 vs PS2Reality flames in here, but if this post comes under question -- I'd like to see it remain. I'm truly not instigating here, just seeking some answers that no-one seems to ever have ... and hoping that the readers here can respond in a even tempered and respectible fashion. Thanks for the forums and the site, its appreciated.

Well, blame PS2 Reality for this. They are the one who don't want you to enjoy their software in Dev.olution mode.

It´s a pitty that people that have the best chip nowadays (aka DMS3) can´t enjoy good software as PS2 RealityMediaplayer
By the way, when tha guys from DMS3 are going to finish the last version of the DMS Explorer?
They said "soon", but they said that a few months ago.
I checked the web page of Reality Mediaplayer and the develop their own browser (aka MCLoader) with the last version of the player (V. 1.50).
DMS3 must develop their new updates pretty soon. It´s turning a jungle out their and only the best is going to survive.

Mike... thanks for the reply. But instead of the he said, she said ... can you tell me why? Whats the beef between the two? Was DMS3 dating PS2Reality's sister? Or mom?

It just doesn't seem like there is any definitive reason that these groups are squabbling.

*And futhermore, is there a viable way people with DMS3s to install RMP 1.5 in Dev mode, or will it be awhile / not happen??*

    Thanks for the reply!

Ok, I would really enjoy spending 2 hours of my life typing the reason of everything but I'm pretty sure it would be easier for you just to do a search on the forum. You will dig up the original threads etc... And yes there's a simple way of installing the RMP 1.50 in Dev.olution mode. You can use the modified version that can be found in the homebrew section of the forum if I remember correctly.

PS2 Reality sells an aweful lot of modchips, I actually sold one JUST for ps2reality, that's all the client wanted it modded for, and you know they don't make a penny from it. I'd be salty, too.
A toxic agent on a dangerous mission so secret, even I don't know what it is, because if I did, I would have to kill myself. I don't even know who's side I am on.
