Noobie Methodology

I'm a total noob, and its just about to clear 2011 into 2012, the ps2 is an amazing console and I've pretty much burned out most of my games as most people have. What is the most indepth methods to getting your ps2 to allow you to play your games from usb/memory card(MC)/disk/harddrive/mystical unicorn horn with USB extension.

I'll be honest I love my ps2 but i've never had anything other than the MCs and the controllers, i have several PS1 games such as Lunar, and Legends of Legaia, and ps2 games like FFX and what not, but I want to be able to play them off a HD because there's a new baby in the house and the HD is easier to keep safe then disks...

I'd appreciate any help, and I'd also look into spending whatever is necessary, but I'd love to have access to a page of all the "ideas" out there that way I could make an educated guess as to what I'd like to try, plus it would also allow anyone that would like to organize this, to make a sticky available for all!

When I had my ps2 I had the old fat model. You buy a network adapter and that allows you to put a hard drive inside and run games off of that. There's also a USB Loader for the slim models, but I never used it. Here's a fairly decent tutorial ps2softmod - ashholt

install FMCB or get it installed for you. you can use OPL from internal HDD for a fat PS2 or it also can use USB stick or HDD and the best for slims is over the network... games on a share in your PC and OPL to play them... no disks,no USB skipping best method for slims. but HDD is best with a network adaptor for the older Fats.........

I really really appreciate the information I've gotten so far, so I want to update and let people know that I've purchased a network adapter, and I really want to go with what would be fastest/best and I've got several HDDs with varying sizes, so I just want to make sure that I make a really good purchase. I have a ps3 with software backwards compatibility and I just want to make sure that I supplement my ps3 in the best way possible. Thank you so much for the info you guys have given so much, but I'm so bad at finding the right info so if I could get a push in the right direction as to what guides to use I will gladly go to them and follow them to the letter.

Finally got everything, and there's now a big hitch I believe, I have AR Max but it doesn't have a media player when I put the disc in it says "Loading" and after that completes it shows 3 things MC1 MC2 and a PSP, I have a psp so I decided to use that as my usb device, my problem now is.. i don't know which tutorial to use, or if I even have the right disc to try the fmcb exploit, someone please come to the rescue with something >.<.


I tried using ps2softmod by ashholt and I got everything going but when i put the "trigger disc" in it wouldn't flash or show that the exploit was done correctly. I'm using Lunar Silver Star Story Complete for the softmod.

sorry ,cant help with trigger disks or swap method of install.. i already had swapmagic when i started. and now i dont even have to use that! the only time my unit sees a disk is when i check if ESR runs after i do an install for you guys....
