I have tried numerous tutorials and I am still not getting anything to pop up. Does it have to be a USB HDD? cause I slapped an .ISO on the C drive and then shared it with PS2SMB. Everyone claims to set the local area connection properties IP to 196.168.0.2 but all my static ip's are 192.70.2.xx. Wouldn't that make a difference? BTW both ps2 and PC are connected to the network. this is so frustrating

You only need to read the Official User Guides, as it tells you what you need to do.

Your probably not doing it in the form it needs to be in. You have to put the properly named ISO files into either a CD or DVD folder into your share folder, as described in the User Guides.

I dont know about "everyone" saying to use 192.168.0.2, but you MUST use your IP's for PC, router and PS2, or it wont connect, as is also described in the User Guides.

Here is a direct link to the User Guides:

Just look thru the Tabs for specific topics on Settings, Network, etc

The type of storage drive should not matter. I have tested it both with external removable USB drives and with fixed internal HDD drives of my own PCs. Anything that works as a proper SMB fileshare should work for OPL, as long as everything is configured correctly.

cause I slapped an .ISO on the C drive and then shared it with PS2SMB.
That is far too little detail for us to guess at what went wrong.
You are not even mentioning if you used the proper filename format, with the game ID (== main game ELF name) in the initial part of the ISO filename, and then stored it in the correct subfolder (".\CD\" for CD ISOs, ".\DVD\" for DVD ISOs), inside the main PS2SMB fileshare directory.

Everyone claims to set the local area connection properties IP to 196.168.0.2
No. That is not at all a normal value. And the term 'connection' property is itself unspecific, as it doesn't state what unit it is for (the PC ?, the PS2 ? a router ???).

The default subnet for PS2 usage (and for most wired routers) is 192.168.0.x, but that is only a default and can be reconfigured. However, all LAN units on the same subnet must be configured to use the same subnet definition, and putting that simply it means that they all need to use the same first three numbers in their IP addresses, so that those differ only in the fourth number part.

(NB to fellow techies: I know that the above is a horrible over-simplification, but it is what most non-techies need to get it right.)

but all my static ip's are 192.70.2.xx.
    Wouldn't that make a difference?
If your PC and router and other stuff all use that subnet, then the PS2 needs to get such an IP address too. The main IP of the PS2 for homebrew use is easily reconfigured either by uLaunchELF or by OPL, and remember that you must also configure OPL with the IP address for the SMB server it is to contact (your PC).

    Best regards: dlanor

That is for your PC, as it is where you set your PC to use a static IP address.

For the PS2 to be given a static IP, you need to set that from the PS2, using either uLaunchELF or OPL.

    uLaunchELF

    OPL

These allow you to input a number not used by another PC or device on your LAN, as they cant all use the exact same IP, the last digits MUST be different. These pictures are ONLY examples, dont use the numbers shown in them.

So in the OPL config screen yours should look like this:

    -PS2-
IP: 192.70.2.10 (i made up this IP for you, as i doubt anything else is using it)
    mask: 255.255.255.0
gateway: 192.70.2.22 (according to your screen, your not using a router, so you input the PC IP here) If you are using a router, change the number in red to a 1

    ---------------
    -PC-
    IP: 192.70.2.22
    PS2 Consoles:

    SCPH-30001-R [V5] DMS4 Pro SE
    SCPH-50001-N [V9] CC 2.0 SLE
    SCPH-79001 [V16] Silver - unmodded
