MAME using HDAdvance?

I have a working HDAdvance v1.00 environment and have tried to install PS2MAME without any luck. I've followed all the instructions to the letter but when it starts running, it freezes at the "www.ps2newz.net" banner with two vertical purple bars, one on each side of the screen.

Other than using HDAdvance, the PS2 is unmodified. I used the swap method to install the CD-ROM that I burned using CDGENPS2 v3.0, using the correct LBA (12331) as per the instructions and filling in the game list correctly.

Any advice on how to get this to work?

it might not work from HD Loader or any of the others.... Some of the homebrew will not work from the HDD.
