It was unpleasant but not impossible to compile a working xmame 0.106 (the latest xmame) on PS2-Linux, which is freely loadable thanks to Megaman's kloader: http://mitglied.lycos.de/ps2dev/linux.html

I did it a couple months ago, and because I use the playstation for all of my compiles (I don't have a working cross-compiler), I had to switch to -O (from -O2) optimization for some portions for memory reasons, but I ended up with a 50MB xmame which worked with a couple test games. I did NOT get it working with the controller, just the keyboard, which is necessary for PS2-Linux anyways. Any interest if you have to use PS2-Linux to run this newer version? The only ELF PS2-Mame is based on 0.37b16 and is the one I typically use because it works with the pad and more importantly it has sound that Megaman's kloader does not. Hopefully Megaman will take a look at the sound at some point because it is far beyond my limited abilities.
