loading emulators with arguments?

I don't know if I'm phrasing that right? Basically What I wanting to know is if there is a way to directly load a rom. If possible maybe even patch it into the ELF. I only have a handful of games I really enjoy playing. I wouldn't mind wasting an entire DVD on single game if it were possible. Or if you could boot the game directly as a FMCB item?

you can run SNES from usb drive .and some others.is that what you mean ?

I understand you can boot emus and load roms from various locations. What I'm looking for is a way of booting straight into a rom without using the emu's gui. example insert disc and the game starts. I know it's not the most economical but as I said I only have a few games I play. Alternatively boot straight into a game from fmcb again bypassing the emu's gui.

point blank, you need the game's source code to do it. other than that, no, it's not possible.

from what I understand most of the emulators on the ps2 are open source. The idea would be to modify the source of something like fceux to load "loadme.nes" first if it were in the same directory as the ELF, if not then default to the gui menu.

the other idea of patching the emulator to load one rom comes from the gc/wii emulators for "Mike Tyson's Jungle Beat". see http://www.glorioustrainwrecks.com/node/202 in this emulator the rom is injected into the emulator by the end-user and plays when the DOL is launched.

An end result could be something to the like... Insert ESR patched disc into PS2 and within a a minute or so you are playing Legend of Zelda without going through any menus.

One of the early Nintendo emulators would do that if you set the configuration file right. I don't remember if it was Imbnes or Infones. That was a nice feature, I quit using it because of FCEU's greater compatibility. You could also define a path instead af a ROM, so that when it turned on it would be at your list of roms. I wish all emu's would open up to the correct rom list. Searching for ROMs is what stops my wife from playing.

I've used imbnes. It's a ps1 emu. You create a rombank and it loads a list. Unfortunately it would not work on ps2 without a modchip as it would be a ps1 disc. I'll look into the other emus. Thanks for the input.

As you can see the ability to launch a specific ROM file was added in Rev.3, and since it is based on a CNF file you can also modify which ROM is to be used.

This method can be used to create a boot disc that will autostart InfoNES which in turn autostarts the selected ROM.

But it can also be used to create multiple folders for InfoNES, each containing a copy of the elf file and a separate CNF file for that instance of the elf, specifying what ROM to autostart. And in the uLE or FMCB menu each of those elfs could be presented with the name of the game instead of the name of the elf file to be launched. (Both FMCB and uLE allow other menu strings to be used than just the elf name.)

Unfortunately however, InfoNES is nowhere near as good as FCEU, which is one of the reasons I dropped my branch of the InfoNES project some time ago.

I have some questions though. My mc0 slot does not work so everything is loaded from mc1. I could not find your rev5 only rev4 I tried to load it from my mc and it displayed debug rev 2 press start. All I got was a white screen. I wanted to know if the infones.cnf file would load from the same folder as the ELF or if it only loads from mc0:\PS2NES\INFONES.CNF

That's right. The version string is inside a mess of other code, which is why I forgot to change it for some updates.

Unfortunately it seems that my memory was at fault here, and this Emu will not load the CNF from any other place than "mc0:PS2NES/INFONES.CNF", and with a broken mc0 slot this means that you can't use the program...

I really should have modified that aspect of it, but I didn't, so that's just how it is...
I'm sorry to have led you on when it can't do the job for you...
