How do you load burned cd-rs and how do you load an iso that is not a game?

I have Free McBoot with SMS, uLE, Cogswap, usbadvance, and more. I can add any homebrew I want. I have lots of blank cds and dvds and a usb drive.

One more thing, no matter how I format it I can't get anything to show up in usbadvance. Any advice? I really want to use my old 4 gb iPod Mini until I get a real hdd (usbadvance doesn't even work really).

There are basically three methods for booting burned discs
    1: Install a modchip
2: Use disc-swapping (bad for the CDVD drive)
3: Use ESR or Memento with patched DVDV discs

The last of those methods only applies to DVD discs so with an unmodded console the only method for booting burned CD-R discs it disc-swapping, which I'm not going to describe here.

and how do you load an iso that is not a game?
If it's made to be bootable, then you treat it just like a game disc, and if it's not bootable I'm not sure what you mean by 'load an iso', as there is no standard way of doing that other than booting it. But if you simply want to access the disc contents in homebrew software, this can be done with patched DVDV discs using the 'mcard' variant of ESR (normally restarts uLE with the ability to access the patched disc).

I have Free McBoot with SMS, uLE, Cogswap, usbadvance, and more. I can add any homebrew I want. I have lots of blank cds and dvds and a usb drive.
With homebrew stuff it makes little sense to have a separate boot disc for each. It's much more convenient to launch the different homebrew elfs from uLE (which is the kind of need it was originally designed for).

And with FMCB you don't really need to use ANY boot disc anymore, since it will boot uLE directly from MC, and you can then use uLE to launch any other elf on that MC (or an MC in the other slot, or from a USB device, etc).

One more thing, no matter how I format it I can't get anything to show up in usbadvance. Any advice?
One common problem with modchips and USBAdvance is something called a "Macrovision fix", which must be turned off to let USBAdvance work properly. If your chip has that fix active with no way of turning it off, then USBAdvance will never work for you, regardless of what device you use or how you format it. In such a case only a hardware change can fix that.

As to the formatting of the USB device, only one format is acceptable, and that is FAT32. Testing any other format is a complete waste of time.

I really want to use my old 4 gb iPod Mini
Sorry, but I don't think I've seen any success reports for iPods, though I have seen several failure reports. I don't know jack about iPod models myself, so maybe it can work with yours, but I seriously doubt it.

until I get a real hdd (usbadvance doesn't even work really).
From this I assume that you either have a fat PS2, or a slim PStwo of a model older than v14 (product code less than SCPH-75000), as newer slim PStwo models are unable to use a 'real' HDD (meaning one connected by IDE interface, without using USB).

    Best regards: dlanor

What are you using to install games for usbadvance?

You might also, becarefull when launching certain programs from an Ipod, or other mp3 player, you can end up bricking it. This happened to mine a couple of time when I used it. Fortunatly there was a hard reset pin.

I believe I was misunderstood, I have Free McBoot and all my elfs on the main menu of the PS2. It automatically boots when I turn my PS2 on. I have a New Slim as well as a very old fat which I use for this kind of stuff (my slim is for games only). I am going to get a real IDE HDD very soon as well as a network adapter and I already have hdloader on my PS2 menu. By "launch" I simply mean "boot" sorry for the confusion.

What I really need to know is how do I boot an iso that is in cd format and is not a game. That is what I really need to know. If you are wondering what it is, it is EGBrowser translated from Japanese. I doubt it even works, but unless people here have guaranteed it's failure than I though I might give it a try.

I also do not have a chip of any kind. Only MC hacks (if that's what you call them). I will try usbadvance on my slim anyways. None of my usb devices show up in usb extreme on my pc either...

Then you might want to give the old Swap Trick a try, if your only intending to play one of those burned discs once or twice. You can find Cogswap or Swapmagic in ELF form and run either from ulaunchelf.

If the EGBrowser is a single file in an ELF extension {or it might be a slus type number file} and no other required files to run it, you can also extract just that file, rename it to EGBrowser.ELF {if its in a slus number } and boot it with ulaunchelf, eliminating the need to even boot a disc.
    PS2 Consoles:
    SCPH-30001 [V4] - unmodded (2)
    SCPH-30001-R [V5] DMS4 Pro SE
    SCPH-50001-N [V9] CC 2.0 SLE
    SCPH-79001 [V16] Silver - unmodded

The EGBrowser is an iso in cd form. I just want to boot it. I have both the cogswap and swap magic elf files. Neither of them have worked since it it not a game me thinks. The iso has many files in it (I extracted them using apache). There is no slus file. Using this method could you not extract the files of a game onto a usb drive, rename the slus file to whatever.elf, and then boot it using uLE etc.?

I saw games in the Memento compatibility list that were CD-format. Some said "CD-DVD conversion" or something next to it. How do you do one of these conversions? If they work with Memento, they should work with ESR, right (same dvdv method).

Also, I'd like to find a modern Cogswap guide because most seem to reference ancient soft mods and have many steps that probably aren't needed today. Does Cogswap require me to rig the lid switch/sensor/door?

I was recently looking for the same info (CD to DVD game conversion), and came across this:
To err is human. To really foul up requires a computer.
