hi hypersonic,
thank you very much, i'll send him a pm.
First of all, the irx which gives PS2 progs UMCDR support is cdvd.irx. There are 2 versions of cdvd.irx, one has UMCDR support while the other cdvd.irx doesn't. The UMCDR version of cdvd.irx is included in the download of the PS2 prog called Altimit. If you do add UMCDR support to Keylauncher, do understand that the author of UMCDR doesn't want UMCDR apps distrubuted thru PS2 Scene. What this means is that you can't post a link to a UMCDR enabled Keylauncher or post it as an attachment on PS2 Scene.
because Sony is so against downloading music from the internet... they decided to include MP3 playback capabilities in there car stereos....
just like this... he's trying to avoid a scuffle with Sony.... he doesn't want his code (UMCDR) to be used with pirating games (although I find it very unreasonable to burn games to UMCDR for playing "backups" - wink wink). Why make something like that if you think it might be used otherwise.... great code... but like all good things... they can be used for "fun", I mean mischief. Like smugling drugs in your kids CareBear.
drak didn't pull his code because of SOny. He knew that his code didnt matter to Sony at all, as not one commercial game can be loaded thru UMCDR without major patching.
Hermes ripped him off, and created the "CDX" format, and wrote a wrapper for cdvdman in an attempt to use such formats for warez, and to make ps2reality support them. THAT'S what pissed him off. The attempt at warezing failed, btw. Also, CDGENPS2 added UMCDR support, but it was not true UMCDR, just good enough to load with his cdvd.irx, and did *not load* with the new versions of his tools.
SO, the project was killed.
Altimit can no longer be found, as that was not an official release. someone jsut nabbed the CVS, and compiled it.
There ARE still places to find this elusive IRX file, but as per Drak's wishes I will not say where.
Bottom line is it's hermes' fault.
if anyome wishes to use "CDX" the format is documented in herme's docs for mcloader, and that shoudl be enough for someone to write their own cdx.irx.
Yep, Hermes screwed UMCDR & this is the main reason why I have hatred towards Hermes. Hermes even tried to claim that he created the CDX format & he claimed that UMCDR is based off of CDX. Hermes even tried to claim that Drak's UMCDR code was stolen from code that Hermes wrote.
Also, Action Replay Max Evo use UMCDR & from what I have heard is that Datel didn't have premission from Drak to include UMCDR support in Max Evo.
I also like to mention that if anyone wants to see the thread which had a hand in the death of UMCDR goto the PS2DEV thread from April 2004 at http://forums.ps2dev.org/viewtopic.php?t=204 .

yeah armax is a direct rip of drak's umcdr. its funny because apparently they had the code ages ago... if they did have it ages ago, they just decided to put in the words "DRAKS MAGIC CDDA" in the IRX file :\
The story goes that they used a similar stunt for their old AR upgrade discs for PSX.
ANd you will see a credit to DATEL in the first track of the CD.
I think what they did is made ti spit that out so pgen would read it without modification, having decided that UMCDR was an unnoficial standard.
so hermes needs his nuts extracted.....
