    Hi,

    I am having problems installing PS2Reality's media player (1.50) in memcard - it says I need to place ps2media.rar etc. in the memcard... But I do not have ps2linux (yet)...

    I tried using the menu "Install (in memcard) from CDROM" - but it did not work ... Has anyone done that ? (that is supposed to run mcloader with the mcupload.txt provided, that in turn should upload:
    <ps2media.rar>
    <unrar.irx>
    <copy.cnf>
    {in root dir}
    and
    create {OGG} dir
    then upload:
    <ogg.rar>
    <letter.chr>
    <idioma.txt>
    *<copy2.cnf>

    My question is, do I need to 'format' the memcard in some way ? (to create the file system?) I know that I need to create the root dir and icons before uploading files...

    Anyone ?

    Here we go !...
    I am answeringmy own questions... (again?)....

    It turned out that my mcupload.txt and also copy.cnf files were messed up (?!) - I am not sure why - but it seems that the 'cdgenPS2' did that ???

    If I fix the LBA's on the two files listed in the MPlayer readme -
    .....
    Burn a cd with these files:

    LBA FILE
    -----------------------
    12231 SYSTEM.CNF
    12232 MCLOADER.ELF
    PS2MEDIA.RAR
    UNRAR.IRX
    COPY.CNF
    COPY2.CNF
    MCUPLOAD.TXT
    LICENSES.TXT
    OGG.RAR
    LETTER.CHR
    IDIOMA.TXT

    My MCUPLOAD.TXT was messed up - aftfer I write the image to disk, I opened the file and it did not look ASCII at all !!!...

    Then I generated the image WHITHOUT ANY LBA fixing... and all worked pretty well... the ASCII files were not messed up and I was able to upload mplayer files into memcard AFTER I created the root ditrectory first (with "Select" button)....

    And they lived happily ever after....

    Guys having trouble myself with getting the player to save to the memory card. I compiled the program just like the tutorial says but I was not able to get it to save to the memory card. It does work however if I boot from the cdrom. System is V7 with M2.
    thanks

    Games4Hire and all interested,

    let me explain a little bit more (I let myself post an extract of one of my private message shains)

    I am having the same problem as you. I can't save the app. to the memory card. I get an error message. It seems the same problem as you have. I can run the player from the cdrom, but I cant load it into the memory card. I tried to follow how you fixed it, but I wasn't able to. Would it be possible if you could send me the cue and bin file so I can just burn what you have, maybe then it would work.
    My reply:
    Yeah, not a problem. Let me get off work and I will do the image.
    I was able to save the application to the memory card, but then it turned out this is not much use since you can not just use the browser and start it... ...
    You still need to have the mcloader on your CD's, boot the CD so that the mcloader takes off, and then use the loader menu to run the application from the memcard ...

    Yeah, it does save you the 900k on the CD, so that you can fit a larger movie, but will occupy these 900k on your memcard ... so... you decide.

    Anyway, I will send you the iso.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    From anonymous:
    Hey buddy thanks, I was wondering that same thing myself, I was saying to myself, umm once I get this on the memory card, how am I going to load it. I was thinking maybe you could goto the ps2 browser, and select it from the memory card to run, but guess not from what you say.
    thanks for your help

    My reply:
    Unfortunately, no, I don't think that you can start it from the memcard with Sony's browser (Hey ! PS2reality guys - this would be cool to do !).

    I think that it is in a different format (maybe what mcloader wants, but not what Sony's browser will understand) - in my case Sony's memcard browser reports this file as "corrupted data".

    This file is meant to be loaded with mcloader. Repeating myself - you have to have mcloader boot files on your CD to do that. So, buddy, if you got to the point that you can use mcloader to load and run ps2media player from memcard, then you got it right. There is nothing more that I can help with... unfortunately.

    I wish I had more time to dig into this and see how the original PS2 browser can load and execute files from the memcard (but then, I am not sure it has the functionality for this). To do so, it needs to:
    1) recognize the file as executable (ELF maybe ?)
    2) then understand where to load it in RAM memory
    3) know how to set the command pointer to the fisrt executable address
    ....

    Maybe it was never meant for the browser to know this. To repeat myself, I wish I had more time to maybe write such a browser myself.

    That's all folks !

    Bon,

    I am not sure I understand your question very well - after I uploaded the file in the memcard, I think that I was able to delete them from the original PS2 browser (it was saying that the "data is corrupted" on this item).

    If this doesn't work, you should be able to delete them with the mcloader - I believe there was a command ("start" button on controler) that was deleting everyting) in the menu for doing this.

    You can load the media player off of the memory card with the nice marcus brown exploit, by just telling the title.db to boot the mcloader.elf. that should solve that delimma I hope. I need to know some more stuff about the copy.cnf. How can I adapt this to other programs that I want to run off of my memory card by using mcloader with the exploit? I want to be able to use mcloader to execute them like it does the ps2reality mediaplayer. anyone know anything about this that might be helpful? I would REALLY appreciate it since this would be a dream come true.

    can someone post up the image of mcloader or exploit b/c i cant get it to work, no matter how I burn it, so i just decided to ask for the iso or bin or someone who got it to work, or if you cant post it, can someone just post the steps of exactly what to do b/c nothing has worked for me.

    BTW; i have a v4 PS2 w/neokey usb mod, and it plays everything else

    Okay. I understand your problem.

    nPort also has a problem like this.

    Here's what's up. Sony's built in browser does not support reading a folder in a foler, or deleting a folder within a folder.

    When you have mcloader installed on your card, via cogswaploader (which I use, it's really nice, cuz it loads cogswap, I put in my divx DVD/CD, authenticate it, then hit square to load mcloader from the memcard, which loads the mediaplayer, which plays the DIVX. All too elegant...)
    or cd boot, whenever you add an application to the list, like pgen or pukklink or naplink, it creates a folder inside the folder.

    Here it is graphically.

    mc0:\
    |
    \__BADATA-SYSTEM
    |
    \__PS2REALITY
    | |
    | \__PUKKLINK
    |
    \__PS2LINUX

    Now, the sony browser is too stupid to know how to delete the folder within a folder, and also, if you try to use nport to take a backup of the ps2reality save on the card, it hangs. Neither of these programs can handle folders within folders. They just wern't expecting it.

    The PS2 Browser won't let you COPY the ps2reality save either.

    Oh, and when the ps2 browser says 'CORRUPTED FILE' -- that means it can't find an icon inside the save folder. You can add one with nport.
    (Like metal gear solid pictures, or the ps2reality save if it's created by mcloader 1.0 -- 1.1 and ps2mediaplayer both give it an icon.)

    Hope this has answered some questions.
