Is it possible to run imbNES from HDloader? If so, how? I tried just transferring the ISO file over via hdldumb but it won't display a scus or elf file to start up so it won't transfer... Thanks

'imbNES' is a PS1 program, and HDLoader is not compatible with any PS1 discs. There is nothing you can do to change that, as HDLoader itself is unable to remain active when the PS1 driver starts up. So even if you could place the 'imbNES' image on HDD, it still would not work.

You can use a gameshark for ps1 and swap imbnes. Other than that there is no way w/o a modchip. You can use InfoNES on an unmodded ps2 and HDD.
    unmodded v10 PS2 NTSC
    120 GB Maxtor Hardrive
    HDL exploit (Key Launcher)
    PS1 game: Twisted Metal 3
    PS2 remote ( w/ reset button )

if you have V9 (ONLY V9) console then you can swap from the PSX disc you used to boot LaunchELF, then use PS2Browser to return to the browser and start the IMBNes CD.
