How do I make a proper bootable cd-r? (v1 ps2 problems)
I've got a v1 ps2 that is modded with a duo2 modchip and it will not boot all homebrew app cdrs for some reason.
It boots all ps2 cd-r's and backup copies of hdadvance and hdloader with no problems. The problem I ran into is when I wanted to update hdloader and re-burn it to a cd. I did that, burnt it, but it won't load on my v1 ps2 (it loads fine on a v7 and a v9). When I put the disc in, it starts to load, then goes to the data screen where it has a 'PS2 disc' listed. I select the PS2 disc, it tries to load, then just goes back to the data screen again.
From this hdloader cd-r example, I only changed the hdloader elf file and that caused it to stop working on the V1 system. I then tried downloading a pre-built iso with the updated hdloader, and it would still not boot on the v1 system, but boots on the other systems.
I've used sony cd generator to create a homebrew app cd, and it seemed to work fine - it works great in the v7 and v9, but still not the v1.
I'm pretty sure it doesn't have anything to do with the modchip since I installed them all from the same batch of chips. And of course, it boots the original hdadvance and hdloader cdr's fine (if I make additional copies of them, it also boots the extra copies fine).
So, what do you think is going on? Am I doing something wrong when making cds with elf applications? Is there something I'm missing that I need to know when making bootable cd-r's for old PS2 systems?
Thanks in advance for any information!
