  1. #1 Help with PS2OS and FTP Commands (mount, read, write)
    sihing_steve Guest
Okay first, hats off to the PS2OS developement team. Cool stuff.

My problem: I've got the ftp server up and running on the PS2OS and I can log into the server from my PC. I can run commands, albiet a little buggy, but I cannot browse, write or read to the MC or HDD.

I am using the command line ftp client in W2K to connect to the PS2. I saw somewhere, and interpreted that I may need to mount the partitions on the PS2 before I could read or write to the individual partitions. I then issued commands to the PS2 like "site mnt /ps2os/0 hdd:+ELF" in an attempt to mount a hdd partition and read and write to it. Tried a variety of commands to do this, all with no success.

Can anyone steer me in the right direction regarding this?

U need a better ftp client like FashFXP that supports raw commands. To mount a partition on the HDD, the partitions on MC don't need mount, go first in the hdd look at the directory structure ususally in the left pane of the ftp client.
All the folders in the hdd begin with + pay attention to the letters, upeer or lowercase! Than if u wanna mount a folder on hdd type "site mnt /pfs/0/ hdd:+MUIE" where +MUIE is the folder we wanna mount. Of course without the " ", than go in the left pane in the pfs folde and ya shall have 0 and in 0 tha contents of +MUIE. Do not forget to unmount the folder "site umnt /pfs/0/" ,w/o "".

Also if u can find execftps 0.68 somewhere it has a readme.txt that sayes it all.

"Repetitio est mater studiorum" I mean that practice is the best way to learn and if it doesn't work the first time, check out and do it again until it works. There's another one that works here "Per aspera ad astra".

Best of luck and how we say it in Transylvania "Patience and cigarettes",

    kalashu,

Thanks for the input. I'm still working with it but, I am using FlashFXP and can manipulate the mc or hdd on my PS2. (I.E. Read, Write)

Still trying to get the MC exploit to work. Any idea what PSX games I CANNOT use to trigger the exploit? I've tried Madden 2000 and all I got was a black screen. Not sure where the problem is right now but I have plenty of coffee to get me through! : )

    My ps2 ip - 192.168.0.10
    my laptop - 192.168.0.1
    mask ip - 255.255.255.0

    peeman,

Kinda hard to tell what you are doing wrong from the info you provided. Here is what I did to get the ftp server running with PS2OS. One note about this though, once you have the PS2OS up and running on the PS2, the ftp daemon is running silently in the background. There is really no confirmation that the daemon is running except for your ping utility or actually connecting to the PS2 via FlashFXP.

    1. Get the ISO version of either the 24bit or 48 bit PS2OS.
    2. Get the latest version of WinHIIP.
    3. Get a HDLoader disk or configure an exploit. (I use HDLoader for now)

Connect your PS2 HDD to a home PC and boot up. Put the PS2OS ISO file into the same folder as WinHIIP. (I haven't found a way to "browse" my system for the ISO, and the WinHIIP Start the WinHIIP program and transfer the PS2OS ISO to the PS2 HDD. Power down the PC and put the PS2 HDD back into the PS2.

When you boot up the HDLoader disc you will see the PS2OS as a choice of programs to run. Select your flavor of PS2OS and it should boot up.

There are some quirks with the FlashFXP program and the ftp daemon but I'll save my comments on those until you can, if you decide to go this route, connect to the ftp daemon.

    HTH.

I am having some trouble getting the FTP working in PS2OS. In the forums here it says to use IPCONFIG.DAT in the PS2OSCNF directory in the following format:
(PCIP Subnet Mask PS2 IP) much like IPCONFIG.DAT in PS2LINK.

I have used PCIP and Gateway IP in the first address slot but to no avail. I can run ExecFTP, so its not really a problem getting files to the PS2, more a question of trying to do something new and being unsuccessful. When I run PS2OS I can't see the device on a network scanning tool or ping the PS2. Do I need an IPCONFIG.DAT somewhere other than in the PS2OSCFG folder for PS2OS to get an IP address?

I will continue searching but any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks in advance

u will need to have the ps2 direct connected to pc with a crossover cable. and THEN boot the ps2os. if u boot ps2os and afterwards connect to the pc, it won't work. the defaults ips worked fine for me.
    pc ip:192.168.0.1
    ps2 ip: 192.168.0.10
    subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
when u will type the ps2 ip in the flashfxp to connect, be sure that the passive mode isn't checked.

Thanks for the reply, but does it have to be a crossover? The PS2 can't just be on my network? If so, so be it, but it seems curious. Most of the other apps just need to get an IP Subnet mask Gateway and can then talk to the rest of my network. Pretty standard network protocol there.

It only has to be a crossover cable if you are directly conneting the ps2 and pc together, if you have a router/swithc/whatever then just plug it into that and make sure the gateway ip is set to your router/blah/blah's ip.
