Well, that depends a lot on individual taste of course, and for that there's no accounting. I know that some people dislike uLE simply because it doesn't use icons for everything...

If you wanted to play a game from a disk it will boot fine, as only that one PS1 game is affected.
It's much better to make a specific "TITLE.DB" file, triggering only on one or two PS1 discs (2 in case the first is damaged), preferably discs you never want to use anyway. Old PS1 magazine 'coverdiscs' are ideal. They work just as well as real game discs, but mostly just contain demos that you'll never need.

I believe that I will make my own Title.db, as I have a few older PS1 games lying around.
This is probably a dumb question, but is there any way to play PS1 games from the hdd without installing a modchip? I'd love for the ps2 to be able to play as many things as possible, including the old classics. Everything i've read points to no, but I was just wondering if there was some homebrew software that would allow me to play them. Thanks!
There is no way you can play PS1 games from the HDD.
