Green Screen/Macrovision Removal ELF
Green Screen/Macrovision Removal ELF –
11-18-2008,09:59 AM
Hi all,
Pretty new to all this elf business, but managed to get fmcb 1.7 fully working and have my ps2 doing all sorts of things imaginable now (apart from making the tea).
However can someone point me to/consider writing an elf to remove the f*%cking green screen / macrovision crap that appears when just trying to watch a simple dvd via rgb scart.
Thanks for any help.

Use mcloader 1.35.
It's a pretty old program, but works.

FMCB is only ment use run homebrew software in PS2 mode.
Datel has Region X product is made watch DVD movie also has removal Green Screen option
however remove Macrovision is illegal, no PS2 software does that.
there some modchips can remove both Green/Macrovision.

It does, what version console are you using maybe it's missing the modules from your bios.
To use it load up mcloader and press x on the DVD bit then let fmcb reload and go to the browser and select the DVD.

Hi Kevstah,
Using a v5/6 pal console with rgb scart.
I boot mcloader v1.35 from ulaunch using filebrowser.
I select dvd region free option - press 'x'. Console reboots to fmcb, I enter sony browser and select dvd, fmcb loading... screen appears and then film starts, but it still plays in green?

PS - I'm not really interested in the Macrovison removal as I have no interest in trying to record a dvd. My daughter just wants to watch a legitimate dvd in colour (not green/black).
PPS - I have now been in the loft and found an old disk I got free with a magazine called PSi-2 back in 2002!! This is the Datel/Code Junkies disk called DVD Region X. This does two things, it allows you to play dvd's from any region and also removes the green screen effect when using rgb scart. Tested it and it works, so software removal of green screen is absolutely possible. However it will only work if i remove my mem card with fmcb on it, damn thing also installs its own software 'dongle' to mem card which needs to be inserted to use it.
So at the moment to get it to work I have to buy a mem card, copy dvd region x software 'dongle' file to it, remove fmcb mem card, boot with dvd region x disk , swap disks and finally play disk through browser.
There must be a simpler solution?

Hmmm what version of FMCB are you running? I think one of the earlier version used to loop back to FMCB before loading the DVD.
Also use these settings
FastBoot = 0
OSDSYS_Skip_Disc = 1
OSDSYS_Skip_Logo = 1
OSDSYS_Inner_Browser = 0
and make sure Auto isn't set to load OSDSYS.
I use this method all the time saves having to pop in a AR, GS or XP CD.

So, why don't you remove fmcb memcard after loading mcloader 1.35 and try it?
BTW I may have a clue of why it isn't booting. When OSD is launched from mcloader that triggers fmcb to load, which loads the hacked osdsys. Hacked or not the macrovision removal has likely been lost in the process.
I will ask hermes for the mcloader 1.35 source code, as it is a rather old program. Maybe he listens and the macrovision thing can be directly added to fmcb, or at least we can create an app that lanches the hacked osdsys with the macrovision patch.

Hi Suloku,
Thanks for your interest.
So, why don't you remove fmcb memcard after loading mcloader 1.35 and try it?
My fmcb mem card also has mcloader on it, (makes sense to have all my elfs and homebrew apps in the same place). Unless you're suggesting removing this card while the ps2 is powered up and running mcloader. Doesn't the insertion/removal of mem cards while the ps2 is powered on cause damage?
Thanks for all your help guys, i was just hoping someone could use the existing green screen removal part of mcloader to make a little app or elf.
Also why does sms lock-up when trying to play a VOB file from a dvd?
(I also tried this option to get around green screen).
Maybe this would be a nice addition to sms playing dvd's without green screen.
Regards,
Dumpsuk
