Like Experiment1106 says, you normally need a 'crossover' cable, or a hub/switch/router between the PC and the PS2, if using 'straight' cables.

We often use a file to tell the PS2 about IP, Netmask, and Gateway values, though that isn't really needed if you use the built-in defaults, like I think you do. Those default values are "192.168.0.10", "255.255.255.0", and "192.168.0.1" respectively.

These are easily changed to other values by storing a file named IPCONFIG.DAT in mc0:/SYS-CONF/, and have that file contain a single text line stating the new values. For example, my file uses:
    192.168.65.10 255.255.255.0 192.168.65.64
But like I said, the default values are valid if no such file exists.

You mention using a 'different' IP for the PC, so perhaps that is the problem. If you mean that the PC IP differs from all those specified on the PS2, then it won't work. Normally the IP used on the PC needs to be *identical* to the gateway specified above. So using the defaults it needs to be "192.168.0.1".

    Best regards: dlanor
