I'm very sure it only works till 8c, included. Beyond this it doesn't. But perhaps veteran forum members may tell you more.

    ok. to correct som information.
8b is ok it was during 8c that the bios was changed to 2.30. this does not show in the browser so dont try to look.

if it is an early 8c then it MIGHT work but the odds are it wont......

you can still use OPL and uLE if you can buy a original copy of swapmagic.

get the boot.elf file from uLE in the noobie package then rename it to SWAPMAGIC.ELF. . . yes in capitals

put this on a USB stick inside a folder named SWAPMAGIC..... then at boot the swapmagic disk sees the folder and executes the file inside.
this will start uLE and from there you can launch any homebrew, emulator or OPL SMS etc.... and do file and save transfers and backups.....

sorry to be the next person to intrude on this thread but it seems this is a better place to ask than to start a new thread..... sorry in advance

im in situation that my and my buddy have 4 x PS2 between us and we can only get MCboot to play / use Backup discīs on 1 of them and im wondering why..... im 99% thats it not a software / installation issue seeing as one the PS2īs eats anything thats fed into it.

Black PS2 SLIM - SCPH-70004 ( no date code / not missing or rubbed off NEVER printet on the machine ) Serial no can be sent in a PM if that helps - will not play backups "invalid media in drive"

Black PS2 SLIM - SCPH-75004 5D - runs McBoot fine but will not play Backup discīs "Invalid media in drive"

Silver PS2 FAT - SCPH-50004 (no date code) - Eats anything its fed when McBoot is loaded........aka works like a charm ;0)

Black PS2 FAT - SCPH-30004 (no date code) - boots McBoot fine but will not play Backup disc "unknown media in drive"

ive tryed both normal installation and multiversion installation and different Memory Cards ( all Original Sony Magic Gate 8mb )

the black FAT one it the oldest so should it not work??? ive cleaned the optic lens on it with no result.... original disc are fine in it.

im using 16x Verbatim DVD-R burned with DVD Decrypter at 4x and have never has issues with them and they work fine on the Silver PS2 so im shure its not Disc issue

    Thanks in advance.

    UPDATE!!

oooooooooookaaaaaaaaaayyy!!!! i feel like a Blond! now! i didnt actually TEST all the PS2 before i started.... i just asumed that all the PS2 machines where NOT chipped........... i woke up thinking maybe i should check if the Silver PS2 can play backups without anything modded on it and Violá! it can play anything without MC / usb stick in it AKA its chipped / hard modded.............

so where dous that put me??? now im really doubting that i installed McBoot correctly........... i did the James Bond Agent under fire trick...... ran FREE_MCBOOT from the Ulaunch thing and it said everything was installed ok............ but now im not shure............

    any thoughts???

    Thanks in advance.

    I think you forgott something....

You try to play backups that you already had ?

To play backups with FMCB you must have your game in an iso-format to patch it with ESR-Disc-patcher.
After patching you can burn it.

So if you have "standard" backups, you must reburn it to another CD/DVD by patching it.....

dont even need disks to see if it was installed and running...
look at the OSDSYS screen. is it the standard sony screen or are there extra options? if you used the noobie package then you should see SMS and FMCB configurator in the list, maybe HDLoader or OPL and ESR. if you see these then FMCB is installed and booted. Then patching the ISO before burning is your problem.

and you will need to do a multi install for these machines.....
as the silver PS2 has a modchip then maybe you can use this to boot the uLE iso found on this forum somewhere. then use uLE to start the install from /mass
