Fast way to transfer data to my PS2 hard drive

I want to use SMS on my PS2 to play media off the hard drive. So far I have two ways of putting media on it:

-copying files off my usb drive that is compatible with launchelf but not SMS (450 KB/sec)
-using launchelf's FTP server (130 KB/sec)

Neither way is fast enough for me. Is there a faster way to transfer files?

I've tried using fsclient included with ps2client for launchelf, but I don't think the mount command worked to mount one of my computers drives on the PS2 under host:/ like I was exepecting. There is no documentation for fsclient included in the ps2client archive I found too.

Good. This means you already have everything you need confiugured in uLE, to use the "host:" device instead.

The HOST interface usually allows around 500KB per second, though you can only expect that speed when copying straight to HDD. With other devices, like MC or USB_mass, their drivers will 'bottleneck' the transfer to lower speeds.

The "fsclient" stuff has little to do with the HOST interface, although it's implemented in the same programs. It is intended to allow a PC program to browse folders on the PS2, in much the same way as the HOST interface allows a PS2 program to browse the PC. I can't really give you any pointers on how to use "fsclient", since I've never even used it myself.

The HOST interface server built into uLE is started simply by attempting to browse to the "host:" interface. After a brief timeout that will only show an empty directory, since no client has connected yet. Starting "ps2client.exe" at this time (and with proper arguments) will cause it to contact uLE, and the next time you attempt browsing to "host:" again, the browser should show you the proper content on the PC.

That content will usually depend on the "elflist.txt" file stored with ps2client, but if you have no such file then the content will be just the folder ps2client resides in (plus any subfolders). I recommend using one of the GUIs instead of launching ps2client 'by hand'. The GUI I use myself nowdays is "PS2Client Loader v1.2.6" by 'vtecorona'.

NB: Most GUIs for ps2dlient detect the PS2 HOST simply by standard IP 'ping', which means that it's not really detecting the server itself, but only checks if ANY TCP/IP stack has been activated with the IP address of the PS2. So if you use the 'PS2Net' command in uLE to start the FTP server, this will cause a GUI running on the PC to assume that the HOST server is active, and fire up ps2client... But its contact attempt will fail, and browsing to host: won't help, as ps2client only makes one contact attempt per launch. In such cases you'll need to terminate it and try again. (Use the "Stop"/"Start" button twice in the PS2ClientLoader popup.)

MyPS2's samba gives me the fastest transfers.

It all depends on your definition of `fast'. If you're in command-line try pfsshell. Coupled with hdl_dump' server it makes more than 1MB/second.
