That is a horribly incomplete report.
In order to understand what went wrong it is necessary to know a lot more about your setup and exactly how you were using it at the time of failure. Also, it is dubious what you mean by "elf launcher", as this could mean either the elf launch menu of the modified OSDSYS, or the uLaunchELF program (normally abbreviated as uLE).
You need to specify exactly how you booted, and how you tried to launch ESR.
And of course you also need to describe the disc used and how it was prepared.
As for the message about the file not being found, that message too should be reported exactly as displayed on screen. Otherwise it is impossible to be sure what it relates to, or what system component displayed it. I have a suspicion that it could simply be the normal message of uLE when started without any LAUNCHELF.CNF file, which then displays "Failed To Load LAUNCHELF.CNF" in the top left corner of the screen. If that is the case, then it is completely unrelated to your failure to use ESR.

hi there, love that dlanor is trying so hard to bring us newbs and those dudes the power of straight booting, but i get a similar problem to everyone else.
i use the swap magic...ule boot disc...add elf etc from mass to mc0 method of getting the files on my 8mb sony card.
i have fmcb 1.7 and have tried booting two games through esr beta 9. both on the free mcboot screen, and on ule and the screen flashes colours ending on a dark pink hue, and then ................nothing absolutely nothing, the disc has stopped.
the games i used (after patching them obviously with the compiled patching tool) where:
berzerk ntsc japanese backup
legobatman pal. straight backup
my console is pal ps2
scph-30003 R
oh and my dvd r's are asda brand, they have never given me any trouble before.
heard maxim are good. would this make a difference?
PLEASE HELP <3

That's what these forums are all about, helping each other get the most and best use out of our consoles.
Those are just the means of installation, so once you can boot FMCB successfully and also launch the standard elfs (as stated below), then those installation methods have no further influence.but i get a similar problem to everyone else.

And which 'esr beta 9' might that be then ?i have fmcb 1.7 and have tried booting two games through esr beta 9.
Is it the earlier 'beta r9a' release or the current 'beta r9b' release ?
And which elf did you use ? (the variants are 'mcard', 'dvdv direct', 'dvdv direct off')
The standard variant to use for normal game launching is 'dvdv direct'.
This proves that ESR has launched properly and started some of its work.both on the free mcboot screen, and on ule and the screen flashes colours
I'm not sure of the meaning of each colour, but ffgriever should be able to tell that. The colour does represent some particular phase of the work it was doing when freezing.ending on a dark pink hue, and then ................nothing absolutely nothing, the disc has stopped.
Please define the difference between "backup" and "straight backup".the games i used (after patching them obviously with the compiled patching tool) where:
berzerk ntsc japanese backup
legobatman pal. straight backup
I have no idea what you meant by that.
I'm not sure if it's the same game release, but a japanese game with similar name to "berzerk" was reported as working in the ESR compatibility list thread found here and that report is right here.
I have no info on the PAL version of 'Lego Batman' but there are three reports on the NTSC version, which reports have these links: First, Second, Third
I find it very likely that the PAL version is also compatible, though that is unproven.
I'm afraid the 3000x models are notorious for weak lasers, so that might be one factor in your problems.my console is pal ps2
scph-30003 R
Next time you should search the compatibility threads yourself (there are more than one in the FreeVAST forum), by using the "Search this Thread" command shown in the thread menu, at the top of the posts listing in each thread.
I never heard of them.oh and my dvd r's are asda brand,
I never used them.they have never given me any trouble before.

Yes. High quality discs from well known quality manufacturers do work a lot better than cheap 'no-name' brands. I use nothing but Verbatim 16x DVD-R myself, though I know that there are others too with similar standards.would this make a difference?

Dont know if you fixed this or not, but I believe its somewhat a common problem.
Its uLaunchElf that is at fault. Even though it shows you the esr spalsh screen, it still need uLaunchElf to be setup correctly. Simply load uLaunchElf from the Free McBoot main menu and save settings. This then creates the LAUNCHELF.CNF file and gets ESR working![]()
Advice on problems of FMCB+ESR that was given in October will apply only to versions v1.7 and earlier of FMCB. But the current version is v1.8 that was released yesterday and which fixes a lot of different problems with the older versions.
Your first consideration should thus be to upgrade to the current FMCB version, and then you can repeat your earlier tests to see if those problems remain at all. Quite likely they will be gone without any other measures being needed.
As for needing to start ESR from uLE, like h0ffman said, that has never been necessary for me, and it certainly does not work that way with 'FMCB v1.8' and 'ESR beta r9b'.
Just make sure that you've taken the file named "ESR beta r9b dvdv direct.elf", and renamed it to "ESR.ELF" before installing it for FMCB, either by including it in the INSTALL folder of the installer package before installing FMCB to memory card, or by afterwards copying that "ESR.ELF" into "mc0:/BOOT/" using uLE.
