Just wondering how hard do you coders think a port of the original DOS DOOM would be? Seeing that there is no port already im guessing pretty hard.

Im prety sure there is a DOOM I port for the PS2.
where?
Theres a Doom for PS1
I think it would be a great idea to port it to ps2, like the "DoomsDay" with the fixed smoothed graphics and all. But hey daisukejigen, you got a point. I'm all for it if someone did port it as there are some better features in the pc version as it actually had bug fixes.

My bad, I was thinkign of Quake 1 for PS2.
I remember seeing a Quake 1 port for PS2 somewhere before. I don't think it ran very well though. More of just a concept thing.
I don't know but the Wuake 1 port is for donwload on this site. On the main page look on the left side bar and you will see.
As far as I know the Quake 1 port you speak of is developed only for the Linux kit, and will not run without the Linux RTE (and I assume this REQUIRES a real Linux kit installation).Originally Posted by hip725
In other words:
Quake is NOT available as a normal homebrew usable on a normal PS2 setup.
DOOM is NOT available in any homebrew release at all (to get back to the original subject).
Making such a release should definitely be possible, as average PCs available when DOOM first appeared had weaker overall CPU power than a PS2, comparable RAM memory size, and a much more primitive video system. A good DOOM implementation will probably require HDD though, and here too the PS2 capability far exceeds what was normal for the time of early PC DOOM releases, as normal HDD capacity was *much* smaller back then. It should also be possible to make a version using CD/DVD instead (for WADs etc), but then there will have to be irritating load delays.
So such a project is definitely feasible, but it will never happen unless some programmer feels motivated to take it on (which I personally do *not*).

Isn't Doom just a WAD file which is similar to Beats of Rage BOR concept. Would it be easier to write a elf file that executes the WAD.
