Console extremism comes to mind, as does pure stupidity... Reminds me of the guy who stood in line for the first iPhone and just ended up putting it in an industrial blender. There really is no logical explanation for some peoples actions. If you hate your console that much, just give it to someone else or sell it, seriously.
